ive rode a brand new 2006 rm 125, and it was slow as balls, my friend just got a brand new 2007 CR 125 and it feels like the rm is a 125, and the cr is a 250. they dont even feel like they are on the same level.

the YZ has the best suspension by far...it has one of the best engines. it pulls hard from the bottom right through to the top.

the other bike that has the better engine is the KTM...they have the most powerful engines in the 125 class. i rode an '03 125sx and i loved the engine but hated the handling...

the kx's had great engines and decent chassis. my friend has a '98 kx 125 and it handles very very well and the engine flat out hauls @ $ $.

the CR125 has very good suspension though not the best, and it has a fun engine. in my experience the CR has a much shorter powerband that comes on hard in the middle and revs very quickly. you got through the gears extremely fast on this bike. it is a ton of fun to mess with, but because it isnt as broad of a power delivery it is a bit slower...though it is competitive if you know how to ride it. i never rode an RM125 as i dont like suzuki, and i dont know anyone that owns a rm125

Hands down 2006 and UP YZ125. They have won all the head to head competitions against the other 125's I've seen in several magazines.

For the price, any 03+ yz125 is a good overall bike. 05+ is even better. They handle pretty dang good and the stock suspension is by far the best I've ever had stock. I have an 05 yzf and ride wise, it's great for stock. Takes the breaking bumps pretty good and is somewhat forgiving on the bigger hits/if you come short. The motor in them is pretty strong as well.

Cr's... Handle good, but not an arm ripper. Definitly could use more power.

Rm's, by far the best handling bike out there. Like the cr's, they could also use some more power. They're not bad, but in stock form they feel like they're lagging power.

Kx's... 03 I believe was kinda a bad year. Lots of people were having problems with them motor wise. Cranks, cylinders, pistons, bearings, you name it. I'd stay away from the 03's. Anything up (I forget which year kawasaki stopped production) from the 03 would be better.

KTM's... If you have the money go for it. I would get an 05+ though. The motors in the 04 and below are just down right awesome, but I don't care for the suspension personally. 03 and 04 weren't great years for suspension on the ktm's. Constantly blown fork seals, harsh ride, stiff in the top stroke and too plush in the bottom stroke, etc. That's just the front forks lol. The back shock isn't too bad on the bigger hits and will absorb pretty well, but it showed it's weakness in breaking/accelerating bumps. How would I know? I had an 04 200sx. 05's and up got revised forks and shocks as well as a more useable power plant. Nothing can match ktm's motors, period.

I've owned all of those brands except the cr. I've more than had my share of time though on cr's. I like their 250's though.

As far as your works pipe/shorty combo, eh' you're not going to really notice a huge change in low end. Mostly mid/top. The works pipe is the same as the plated one, just a different finish.

Same goes for the YFZ in all the YAMAHA paid quad magazines..... :ermm:

It could be the best, sure....but, use personal experience, not magazines.

Then one should state their personal experience to explain their opinion......not the fact that the best bike, in their opinion, won some shootouts.

You're missing my point.

My point is how can you compare motorcycles unless you've driven them all. More than one magazine I read compared all the 125's head to head. There were catagories that other bikes were better at but, over all the YZ125 was tops.

As far as personal experience, I've riden my Son's 06' YZ125 and I think it's bad @$$. Partially because I bought it and also I did my homework before going out and buying.

Thanks KXRida. :macho

Does that satisfy you CannondaleRider?

No I got your point. I think he was just tossing in the fact that the yz 125 has won most of the shootouts. For the record the yz 125 is one of the best overall bikes. KTM has a better motor, but imo the yz is better overall. The suspension is a little better than the katoom's.

Doing a lot better. I went racing sunday and just got home from riding today. So far so good. Today was the first day that it's been a little sore from riding since I had the accident. The accelerating bumps were just down right killing me. I hit one and it jarred me pretty bad, enough that I felt it, so that was my cue to take a break for a while.

06 yz250f. the kxf's are like bombs in 05, and they have no bottom end.

the kawasaki had alot of changes in the engine 05-08. and the yami aswell, but most of all the alloy frame arrived in 06

the kxf didn't really step it up until 07. Anything under that IMO isn't that good. They're nice bikes, but for those years, there are better. I'd go for the 06 yzf. Has the typical yamaha suspension. Very good overall setup right out of the box. I almost wish I had an 06 now over my 05. The 06's handle a lot better than the steel framed 05's. The yzf's have a good powerplant. They could use a hair more bottom, but they're good bikes. Lot's of mid/top pull.
