I was reading about leaded fuel vs unleaded, about 1 hour of reading and BAIS opinions everywhere. I need to know what is the best type of fuel to run in my CRF450 HYBRID with 12:5:1 comp. I can get 110 TORCO at my local BP @ 5.75 a gallon. Thanks.

Please explain this....

Most people run their four strokes on pump gas without issue so to say its not pretty makes no sense at all.

I think you guys are confusing two different things here. Higher octane doesn't mean its leaded. You can get 110+ unleaded and you can get 94 octane leaded if you want.

The reason pump gas is unleaded is cause its worse for the enviornment to burn leaded gas. And also pump gas is 10% ethenal (idk how to spell it but you know what im talking about). Race gas im pretty sure is 100% gas

No ethanol in the gasoline in Missouri.

Besides ethanol increases your octane rating. Some states use it in their blend in lieu of alkalites (sp?) to regulate the octane rating. Every state uses a different fuel blend. Bureaucracy at its finest. ;)

At 12.5:1 on a 450r (assuming you are in a normal dynamic compression range) you don't need 110 octane. I'd say around 100 should be more than fine. Heck 93 might be even be ok depending on overlaps, timing, etc.... It works fine at 12:1.

I'm going to mix vp u4.2, with 93 at pump. Thanks guys!

Aside from being worse for the environment, lead deposits can also build up in your engine over time and cause plug fouling and other problems. I think another potential problem with leaded fuel is that it's combustion byproducts are corrosive. Light aircraft that burn leaded fuel (100LL, etc.) use a special type of engine oil that minimizes the effects. If you change your oil on a somewhat regular basis, I doubt that would be much of an issue. Food for thought.

you seem to know what your talking about can you tell me what effect retarding the exhaust cam 3 degrees will accomplish?
I.E. raising the comp. or in the overlap, something idk. any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
