i had a question about cylinder heads off a 300ex. The numbers on the bottom ,, do they mean anything.. like the E-3 and the 5T\15 and the 01? i was wondering also how bad a scratch can be on the head gasket side before it will leak. I'm asking because i bought what was sold as a 2005 300ex head.. and its got a slight scratch on the bottom. should i just send it back? or would the gasket seal it. purchased from GDH Racing (ebay).

Thanks in advance
Dave

Head gasket (between the head and the cylinder)?

Or head cover gasket (between the head and head cover)?

Headgasket a gouge or deep scratch may cause issues since you are using a metal gasket.

Headcover gasket it is a nonissue as you'll use a high temp silicone sealant to seal it, which will fill in the void w/o issue.

The guy at GDH has always been easy to work with. I'm sure he'll swap you out another head if you have any issue as long as the defect want already pointed out in his auction.

Any pictures availiable of the area in question?
