What kind of riding will you do. MX, trails, sand etc....

well im his friend that suggested that. and well the kind of riding we do kind of varies. some of it is fast farm trails but then we have a place we ride where its lots of hill climbs and big sand piles we ride on. i guess more bottom end would be better for our kind of riding.

15-37 is going to be way too tall in my opinion. Even with the 511, I still think you will be clutching it all the time.

Is this an 04/05 or 06+? The 06+ come 13-37, the 04/05 come 14-37. But most people use 13-37 on the older models anyway. I would suggest 13-36. Since you are running the bigger motor you will be able to pull the slightly higher gearing with ease.

Well just start with where you are now. You dont really have to worry about "bogging" on a hard start like mx so thats probably not a concern (if it were you would try going down a tooth up front). Remember that changing 1 tooth up front = 3 on the rear. So when you feel like your close to where you want it especially on the front sprocket, leave it and do your fine tuning on the rear sprocket. It may take a few combinations for you to get it where you like. But I would definately get the front one just about right first. I think that the last guy who replied is probably right on the money...check it out and see.

13-38 is what most guys i know run. Both mx and xc.

THE 04-05 COME STOCK GEARED TOO TALL TO ME. IF YOUR RUNNING 18" REAR TIRES, 13-38 SEEMS TO WORK WELL. IM CURRENTLY RUNNING 13-38 ALSO. MINE IS AN 04

I do the same type of riding, I use 14-39 with my 18" tires and 13-39 with my 20" tires, but even 14-39 with the 20"s is still a great combo if you have a lot of areas where you open it right up.

The way you build your engine - the parts that you use and the way it comes together - will determine what kind of tires, gearing, etc you should run. I run 14-38 on my 501 with 20-21" tires (05 450r). Works good for most terrain, but some dirt requires taller gearing - I've found myself pulling 4th gear off the line without bog at certain times, but it usually pulls no less than 3rd gear takeoffs. In any case, this is the lowest gearing I would use on that particular engine for all but extreme terrain.

im running stock gearing now.

what would benefit me more 15 or 13 ?

i ran the 15 for a bit but thought i needed to clutch to much.

15 just might be too big. I would say 14 or 13. What do you have on the back. Also Im guessing you have a 14 on the front now.

Project Black has a 14-38 setup on 18" rears and it blows through the gears as fast as I can get my thumb down with lots of wheel spin. I would try a 15 in the front to start.

It does have a couple mods though:rolleyes:

That what it's running now. We might try a smaller rear
