We decided since I have the next two weekends booked to cover races, that today we would take the day off and head over to one of our nations battlefields.

It was a humbling expierence knowing that over 2000 soldiers died where I was standing and in the field infront of me in just one skirmish in this battle.

Ryan read every name on every monument. Between him and Cody I did not need a tour guide:p

This monument really stuck out, the craftsmanship was inspiring

wow, great pictures pappy, that last one shows all of the detail in the monument, i bet that was a hard piece of concrete to make.

a few years ago i went to Gettysburg, and if anyone hasnt been there, its worth a trip out there, its pretty interesting.

I bought a book about the battle, and the photographer who was paid to cover it. He was the first photographer to have his photos of war dead printed.

The black and white shots really took me back in time

The Observatory was constructed in 1903 ( I think) and was to serve as an learning area. We walked to the top and met a young man who just returned from his tour in Iraq. He told me he wishes something like this could be built to honor those who have fallen there to be constructed

Not to many, the sun started getting bright and we just kind of relaxed as we toured the facility.

Trust me greg, i know:p it seems now when i get 3 or 4 days without much to do i just veg out because i know i have 3 or 4 days of non stop work waiting.

The battle at antietam was the bloodiest battle in our history, 26,000 soldiers on both sides died in 1 day. it pretty much was the end of the confedercy. Gettysburg gets the majority of attention, but most hostorians agree that this one battle was the one that ended the war

Ahhhh .... thanks for the history lesson. I guess it's true what they say ... you learn something new every day.

Now get back to work . :p

BTW ... did you ever snap any pictures when you headed west a few weeks ago? I remember you saying that you might take some pictures heading through Ohio or somewhere like that if you had extra time . Just curious .
