i read a post on here about a dude gaining 10 true horsepower from a 450r carb on his 400ex according to a dyno, i just found an edelbrock carb that only gives you 5 more horses now could it be that the stock 450r carb will out perform the edelbrock or is it just smoke and mirrors.

the 450R carb adds about 4 HP... possibly more as these dyno runs (not done by me) were done with the 450R carb hanging off the intake boot.

HP gain that ANY carb will give is 100% dependent on the mix of parts and the level of tuning.

One thing that most people have commented about when upgrading to the 450R is the throttle response! GPRacer2500 did a "seat of the pants" dyno between a 400EX with a 450R carb and one with a stock carb. The machine that had the stock was actually faster, but the 450R carbed machine felt faster!

If he got ten true horses, I've got an Edelbrock I'll sell ya!:p Naw, j/k. The reason I got my edelbrock was due to it's easy tunability and how cheap i got it off ebay. $185 brand new with extra needles for up to a 426. Otherwise i would have gone witha 450r carb.
As for my carb, all i can say is it was faster than stock. Sounds better, too.
