New to the mini stuff, & classes confuse me. My son racing his 1st national only going to have fun & learn, anyway here is what we have, he got his atva card last year expires in september, he just turned 12, but was 11 when bought card last year. Has a TRX 90 2001 4 speed with no clutch just shift & go. VERY VERY beginner rider looking for experience only. What should or could we run??

Thanx Ken

If he was still 11 on Jan 1, 2008, he can run the 90 JR production class. This is not a beginner class. The kids in this class are screaming fast.
You may want to take him this weekend to the PAMX race at Pleasure Valley before you decide whether to put him in a National Event.

Yea this weekend there will be Brandy Cottage, Kyle, Joe Dogg on 125 shifters in that class and maybe a couple of cvt's. Joe Dogg and Brandy are smokin fast and they run 3rd and 4th at the Nationals Kyle's just learning the Honda thing. If you can you should come to the PAMX race for some pratice. You will have to pay a little more with no PAMX card. Were are you from ????

Were from Trevorton, Pa. This weekend is deffently out of question, self employed cook quit have to fill in, we also make our own ice cream & the 4th of July weekend is busy weekend. Going next week with little One because Big brother is flying in from florida to race. He is going to MMI & this is a present for doing great in Florida. Just looking for little one to have fun & feel part of our weekend, Winning is n't everything at this age unfortunetly parents think different, hard to believe with all the little guys out there that they have nothing for a beginner.

Thanx Ken

You are right, winning is not everything, safety is. That is why it would be better to put a beginner in a district level race. The National kids are fast, aggressive and talented racers who have worked their way up the ranks. I think most parents would agree they started at the district level and let their child acquire the skills to compete Nationally. SAFETY is the most important thing for our children when racing, the winning comes with hard work, dedication and experience.
