Hey i was out riding my bike the other day then all of a sudden it powered right out and started knocking like valves clapping. So i drove it home easy and took the oil filter out and it was backwards. I bought a new filter and new oil and it runs fine but with a bit of a knock. Jw what the dammage is and if it would hurt to ride it the way it is? Thanks.

I'm not a motor expert but, I imagine you cut off oil circulation with the filter backwards. How long did you ride it that way? I cringed when I read your post. That can't be good.

well, it doesnt sound good, i mean if its making noises that it wasnt before, then the decreased oil flow definatly did some damage,

is it a distinct knock? that could possibly be bad crank bearings

or it a tap?

if the oil filter is in backwards or clogged I am pretty sure honda put in an oil bypass I remember seeing it when i had the filter out

yes its just a clapping i am sure it is the valved or the rocker arm but no oil was getting to top end or maybe a little was but the bottom end should be fine cause there was still lots of oil in the crank.

true, i would adjust vavles, and do a compression or leak down test and see where ya stand, if everything checks out, then it should be good to go, also make sure its not smoking

That is the same thing that caused about an eighth of my piston to completely melt.

I would take your ignition cover off and check the crank bearings. Try to wiggle the crank and see how easy it turns.

yeah....those filters...if not inserted correctly....you could seize a motor in minutes

Did you hold the filter up to some sunlight and see if there were any little shavings in it?

yes and no shavings..i also drained the oil and looked for shavings but none.

hmm spun rod bearing?

Yeh sounds like the rod bearing as long as it didn't seize up and quit on you it should be alright but when you change the bearing check and make sure the cylinder isn't scoured.
