just wanted to get me something that would give me better bottom end.

my buddy put a 14t and his stock is 15. He liked it alot. he likes the bottom end power.

Yah that will give you more bottom ennd. you will loose top speed though, don't know if that matters to you. I had mine like that for a while and it was pretty good for how I ride.

is the stock front sprocket a 14 or a 15 on a 400. i know the rear is a 38. Most people do say keep the stocker 38 on the back and go one less on the front. im not worried about top end

You should have enough chain adjustment to go -1 tooth in the front, so it's not like you need to buy a whole new chain or anything. The nice thing about the front sprocket is that it's a cheap experiment. If you don't like the gearing and you switch back, you're out a whopping $12.
