I know that amsoil is the best sythetic to buy but i cant find it anywhere. I have found royal purple though can i run that in my 440ex? Also how long should i wait after rebuilding to run synthetic? Now i am just using 4-stroke 10w-40 regular stuff.

You can buy amsoil direct from them. Is the royal purple for motorcylces/atvs? If it is then its fine. Atv oil contains anitfoaming agents for the transmission and doesnt contain things that could cause the clutch to slip. Without the antifoaming agents, the oil wont protect the engine as well as it should due to the air bubbles.

No the royal purple that i found was regular sae 10w 30. I will have to look to see how to order the amsoil straight from them.
Thanks for the help.

Most synthetics are known for foaming less. Most oils that do not have the energy conserving label are ok. Everyone rants about moly, but most oils don't have enough moly to cause any harm to the clutch, in fact some motorcycle oils contain moly. I used $3/qt petroleum based automobile oil without any problems in my old bike. IMO the whole motorcycle oil thing is mostly a marketing way to add a couple bucks to the price of oil.

i have ran either mobil 1 or royal purple since i bought my 416ex last easter and havent had any problems and even went longer then i really should have between changes. Also my friend (who i bought the quad from) ran nothing but royal purple 10w-40 since he bought it in 02.

0 problems to date

i got royal purple for my 440ex and its awsome. it has yet to foam no matter how hot it was. and the throttle rospense is slightly better. the 25$ for an oil change was a bit much. but everything the best for this engine lol i highly recomend this oil
