if u have to have the idle screw all the way in on a pwk carb to make it idle, what do u have to do? go smaller on the pilot or lower the clip on the needle in order to back the screw out?

What about your airscrew? If your airscrew is between 1-2 turns out and your idle screw is turned all the way in then you need to go down on your idle jet.
Your needle clip position is not meant to adjust your idle settings.
Needle clip affects jetting from 1/4 throttle 3/4 throttle.
Turning the airscrew in at idle will richen your mixture... cutting off the air supply... turning it out will allow more air... leaning the mixture at idle..
The idle screw is slotted into the carb slide. By turning it in.. you are essentially just opening the throttle slide to compensate for the rich idle jet.
Just for clarification so the two arent confused....
The airscrew is the small slotted brass screw.... the idle screw is the larger black plastic screw.
