Is the clutch arm. Where the cable connects on the motor supposed to be able to turn towards the rear of the maching and then turn so its pointing away from the machine?

I think you may have a problem, I just checked and mine does not do this...even with the cable disconnected!

does your clutch work? i had a problem that right when it happened i just figured it was a broken clutch cable, but i looked down and the arm had play in it. turns out i broke the little puller in the clutch assembly that separates the plates. that was a long tow back.. anyway, that would cause similar symptoms to what you described.

yes the clutch works perfect. there is no slop in the arm. I asked somebody else that knows these machines inside and out and he said as long as it doesnt keep going when you turn it clockwise its good

I could be wrong, but I think the arm you are talking about is supposed to swing counter clockwise til it's pointing away from the bike. When you take the clutch cover off, I think you HAVE to do this so that the clutch arm can disengage from the actual clutch puller thingy inside the cover. Also, when you put the cover back on, you have to make sure that the clutch arm is pointing away form the engine or the cover will not go back into place. And dont force it (like I did), cause you'll break the clutch puller thingy. But like I said, i could be wrong. My memory sux!
