How do you have all these bad @$$ upgrades on your quads?! From a-arms, to Hipers, to triple rate suspension, motor upgrades...the list goes on and on. I make decent money, and I've dumped tons of money into my bike, but by no means am I close to the level most of you guys seem to be on with 'upgrades'. And some of you guys have more than one bike w/ all the goodies on them all. :eek2: So how do you do it? Or am I just checking the wrong places for prices? :D Does everybody on here make a six-figure income? :huh

Its a passion my friend. I have put more into three machines than I paid for my vehicle. I sacrifice going places and vacations and such to build my bikes. I am by no means a wealthy person, I just have my priorities screwed up. lol

Well i'm only 18, and i'm paying for everything on my quad. I sold last years race quad and used that money to buy my suspension, and stuff. I'm making payments on my 450 though. I bought it new in november. I also make a truck payment. I guess I just manage my money.

Money management is the key. Its scary how much I put into my quads, but at the end of the day its my passion/hobby and its become somewhat of a lifestyle. I gave up racing to make parts now and though i still ride and love it, I find more interest in building..

I have cut and pasted this from one of my previous post's.
this should help explain what many of us here are afflicted with...

it's called--
A.A.D.S.
( Accesory Aquisition Disorder Syndrome )

You are BORN with it.
There's nothing you can do about it.
(Trust me, I've been through the 12 step program,
and the weekly group support meetings)

It is TERMINAL !
There is NO CURE.
It controls everything you do.
The best way to deal with it is to simply accept it,
(The hardest part is getting your Wife to accept it)

Now go find peace in your soul,.....

(and Piece, after Piece, after PIECE, AFTER PIECE, for your Quad)

and here are some replies from other forum members...

So there's no hope? Dang. I've owned the quad a month and I'm already seriously stricken with the disease. Of course, I've always had the disease as everything with wheels I've ever owned has been modified.

In the last month I've purchased the quad (new 2007) and put about $1500 into it so far. I'm sending the shocks off to be revalved/sprung by C&D next week. Custom ordered new Works shocks for my wife's 250ex a couple days ago. Going to put new tires on the rear of hers to help handling. It never stops.

Just put the +2 JD Performance A-arms and tie rods on yesterday. I'm going to go try it out tonight or tomorrow morning.

I feel your pain...

ROTFLMAO

Group Support meetings are held the 6th Saturday of each month,
Welcome to the club.
We WILL NOT attempt to cure you,.......

As I said,.... This is a group S U P P O R T meeting !

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A.A.D.S-----Possible symptoms??

I can't seem to remember all the parts Ive ordered in the last few weeks.
When someone says "hello, how ya doing today" I seem to always reply something like"Not bad my new bumper showed up" or "terrible, my nerfs are on backorder"
I wake in the middle of the nite to check eBay for new parts...any new parts.
I think about upgrading my upgrades even before they are delivered.
The UPS guy looks at me like Ive got rabies.
I'm tripping over packing peanuts in my hallway and in my yard.
OMG do ya think Ive got it??
No probably not, I can stop anytime I want to......BTW Does FedEX deliver on Sundays??

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LMAO. i think they said in last months group meeting "the first step to the road to recovery is admitting you have a problem".

Screw that, I worked 60 hours a week and live at home and I did 60 hr wrk weeks for like two months and I was burned out. Props to the people that can handle that. I live at home and got my car and quad paid for. So yeah all cash goes to goodies!

or you could do what i did...

i bought a 100% stock original raptor with like 5 hours on the bike... i then bought another raptor with everything you see in my sig, which was approximately $7k worth of parts. it had a lot more hours on it, and he hadnt maintained his engine and what not as good as what i liked... so, i took all the parts i wanted off the rough bike, and switched them out with the stock parts off the brand new bike... i then sold the rough bike with all the stock parts on it, for what i had orignally paid for it with $7k in aftermarket parts...

so basically i got $7k worth of parts and it only cost me 2 saturdays of switching all the parts back and forth between the two bikes...

you never get what you put into bikes, as bikes with $2000 in suspension work bring $300 more then bikes with the stock suspension... so buy, swap, and even if you lose that $300, you got $2k worth of suspension for $300...

i was wondering the same thing myself but then again, if i had all the money back ive ever spent on whole quads (flatout buying a few new, trading off and such for others, putting $2500 into a $5000 440ex) and could put it in my KFX, id guarantee qoty (quad of the year) and simply wow 250r, if you dont mind im gonna swipe that sometime and try it:D

Went to college and got a good job. Got my life in order first then the quads came after. (I am 35 now. House, car, pay off student loans, etc.) It does sometimes make me sick to think how much I have in all three of my quads though. Helps that I also do not have a wife and kids, but the wife will be soon, then the kids will come after. I think my my days of spending money all at once will soon come to a end.

work your *** off and dont spend money. work weekends cause thats when youll spend the most money. dont buy little stuff. if you get a soda everyday ay work for $1, that can be as much as an exhaust at the end of the year. when your friends want to see a movie saturday night, make up some excuse and stay home and save $15, and at 50 weeks a year right theres almost $800 just to go without movies for a year. little stuff like that really adds up, just discipline yourself.

and yeah for most of us on here, quads come first. people (expecially my parents) think im crazy if they know i have more in my quad than i will in my first vehicle.

wilkin250r

It's all in your priorities. You'd be surprised how quickly a $3.50 for your morning starbucks will add up. Add that to your $1.29 soda every time you get gas, $12 for lunch when you could get by with $2.50, all of those things add up.

Most people, when they have an extra $100 in their pockets will go have a little well-deserved fun, a night out. Intead, put that $100 away, and the next $100 away. It might not be a huge amount, but it might be enough to turn your $600 tax return into a $1200 suspension setup.

Yeah man! 75-80 hour weeks are hell too.. thats how everyone has the badass toys that were built by paying cash, but there is also the plastic card built quads out there. I would hate to have 5,000 dollars in credit card debt! Paying cash is a slower but a better way to go at it IMO! One downfall to woking so much it sucks being exhausted as hell after work everyday though. But yeah not having to pay rent is a huge help to afford the gas to go to a race.

No one seemed to pick up on the resume hint that someone posted at the beginning of this topic. With the creation of mxsponsor and sponsorhouse, anyone can get a sponsorship on pretty much anything. Not factory racer deals by any means, but getting those 30 to 60% discounts add up. I made a point from the beginning of my racing career to make as many connections in the industry as possible. What started as discounts on parts for me, now is not paying for parts at all.

Buy stuff used ... bets way to get a nice looking quad for less money.

I mean , why pay full pop for something , when you can save cash. The nerfs on the yfz were used when I got them but were still in really good shape ... I saved half the price.... when the YFZ was sold , it was parted out from the aftermarket parts and I sold the nerfs for the same price I had paid for them.

SOmetimes you can get good deals .. there might be a few scratches or a bit dirty but unless you want a show quad , these things will happen over time anyways.

And as said ... buy a used quad that's already done up . I lost some money when the YFZ was sold , but it was of no use anymore ..... a 4x4 was more of an interest. So we found a fully done up Yamaha Grizzly 660 that was loaded with everything for a few thousand less than a new Grizz. The only thing I've put into the quad since owned was a set of fender guards and footpegs ... that's it .... everything else was on it. The guy that sold it was getting into dirt bikes and wanted to get rid of the quad ASAP.
