i have been out of the ATV scene for a while now. i am looking to buy a 2004 400ex motor and put it in a 2000 400ex bike. i remember they put reverse on these bikes but i didn't know when changes were made. i believe the 04's were a direct bolt-in for the 2000's, as well as other previous years, but i just wanted to double check??

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think 05' was when they first came out with reverse. I'm not totally sure though. Honda didn't change the frame in the 9 years they've been making them so any year motor should fit.

i think it was 05 too but i am not 100% sure. i wasn't sure if the frames were changed or not. however, i wasn't sure what was involved in getting a bike with reverse to fit? we are kind of wanting a simple swap so i figure it is easiest to get one without reverse.

05 was the first year they had reverse

05 they got reverse. And the 05 engine is still a direct bolt in. You just need an 05 cdi and a place to put the reverse switch

in 2005 reverse was added, and the plastic changed. the frame is still the same. in 2008 more changes were made.
