I bought a 05' 450R yesterday and need some suggestions on what type of oil to use. I know how important it is so I'm not goin with the cheap stuff. Also, what type of gear oil should I use? I have an 07' Rancher 4X4 420cc, i could use some maintenance advice on it as well. Thanks guys.

Everyone has the their own opinion one oils. I like Spectro oils. I use the 80W gear lubricate for my trans. Not to be confused with automotive gear oil. The Spectro is equal to 10w30/40.

I use Mobil 1 15w50ep in the engine.

I would also recommend taking out the swingarm bolt (if it will come out) and grease it. I do mine at least once a year.

is that a semi synthetic or full synthetic?

The engine oil is full synthetic.

The transmission oil is regular crude oil.

I go with royal purple for engine oil, about same price as what 450r racer is using, around 85 a case. You have to be careful when buying synthetic oil though, there are those out there that say synthetic but aren't really. Such as castrols syntech. Not a stage 4 synthetic like royal purple but a stage 3. Now if you get Castrol Syntec oil made in germany(only carried at select few autozones and says made in germany on it) then it is a stage 4. Not all mobil 1 oil is a stage 4 either.

I got the Castrol 4 Superbike Synthetic. I did a little research and a lot of people run it in dirtbikes and mid to high compression 4 wheelers too. I didnt even think about the Royal Purple, I bet its real good. Any more tips will be appreciated.

I got 10w40. But I see some of yall run 15w50. Should I take it back and get something else? Would 10w40 not be as good on the motor? The only chance I'm gonna have to go swap is in about 5 hours so let me know. keep in mind I dont race, but do ride the trails pretty hard.

I've been running the same weight oil (Honda) in the engine and transmission. Is this going to cause issues? It's an '05 with maybe 50hrs on it with multiple oil changes.
