I am about to order the Hotcam stage 2 and at motoman they have a Camshaft Installation Kit that you can order. This is completly useless unless you deck the head or the cylinder and need to degree the cam because of the timing change from the chain not having as long of a rotation. Right?

gojk,

The Cam Installation Kit is mostly for the twin cam engines, so it's not exactly useless. You don't change the rotation length of the camshaft by decking the head or cylinder. You're changing the location of the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft which changes the positioning of the cam in the cylinder head by virtue of having less distance in stack height of the engine. Cutting .030" off a cylinder or a head won't change the cam timing so much that you'll notice it in useage. It will however change the lobe centers by a small amount. This will in effect change the way the engine runs and responds however marginally it is changed.

Hope this helped.
