Got a 450r what now?

Hey guys just got me a nice 450r :p . It’s a 04 starts up in first or second kick. May have 10 hours of use for the last 4 years.

My question is: what service should I do?
:huh

the service of showing the quad your the owner lol tear it up! regular maintainance like check the oil, change the oil, clean the air filter and oil it, adjust the valves, lubricate the chain, adjust the chain, check radiator fluid level just the simple stuff. If it only has 10 hours on it the valves should still be in spec and I cant imagine really anything needed to be done but check everything over.

umm, thats not totally true, after the quad breaks in, you should check the vavles because after break in the clearences sometime change, this goes for all engines.

Make your quad better and buy stuff for it like handlebars etc

If it was mine I would do complete main. check on it, put nerfs bars on and kill switch. Then ride for a few hours to get feel of the quad then the HRC kit. jmo :p

Congrats, you bought a great bike!

If I was to offer any advice, change the Oils and check the valves.

Most Dealers will do it for you for $100 give or take.

You will regret not checking if it goes wrong, these rebuilds are very costly. The piece of mind is priceless.

Good Luck, and hold on, that`s no suzuki your riding!

HAHAHAH represent618,

Will surly get the oil changed. What about the coolant? When is that due?

I would just change the coolant when the valve maint is done, that should be overly fine. I do not believe that honda even reccomends changing it.....I could be wrong
The coolant is good for a LONG time, I usually only change mine when it is down for another reason, some of my bikes that get rebuild so often I drain the antifreeze into a clean jug and re-use it....

I just got off the phone with my local honda shop. They recommend valves be adjusted after every 50 hours of use... Is this true?

Yes, it is true.

you might want to check around, I wouldn`t worry about the shop being a honda dealer, IE a Yamaha shop can do the same work....

My local shop is 125 and they take 25 bucks off the first 6 service trips since I bought new from them.

You could do it yourself if you take your time, it isn`t that bad, but doe shave to be right....so to me, the small cost of knowing it is right is well worth it.....now my 2-strokes I rip apart in my sleep.

like every one has said taek care of the motor, as far as mods go, if your gonna get deep in the atvin and stuff after a few small mods i would go with the shocks on it and mabie a-arms or something, you can have the biggest motor you can fit in the chassie but if you cant control the power you might as well just find a river and watch it float away.... the right shock set ups are key....
