well dude you get what you pay for. but I never go anywhere else but motosport.com. best prices awsome selection. but I don't belive there's machine work for hd stufds? just pop out and replace I belive. but the 440kit is prone to blown head gaskets when the studs aren't done. and I don't belive wiseco sells a jet kit. or anyone. a jet kits a jet kit. I liked my kit though. fmf kit. comes with new needle and 150 to 170 jets and 1 new pilot. I can't recall what it is 42 or 45 I think and I have a wiseco 440 11:1 also and I have the 170 jet and it runs great. goodluck dude

There is actually work that needs to be done to install the HD studs. You need to drill the holes and use a roll tap to create the threads. That is the infamous head stud to pull, exhaust side stud. Alot of engine builders actually recommend just putting a heli-coil in for that stud. I didn't like the idea, so I went with the HD studs. Although I have heard very good arguements for going with either solution.

Also, make sure you check the cylinder and head for warpage.

If the 440 kit has been in there a while, you might look into replacing the cam chain and tensioner too. I waited a bit too long and lost the cam chain.

yeah the new studs are roll form tap, best if a machine shop does it for you for precise work.

WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO?!?!??!?!?! Jeebis. lol. But ya u wanna check to see if the heads warped, take it off and put it on a window or a piece of glass if u have it then try to rock it and see if it moves at all or if u can see where its not making contact with the glass.

Ok so i dismantled it when i got home from work tonight and EVERYTHING is EXTREMELY clean. The heap is spotless the cylinder still has crosshatching in it, there is some carbon so it has been runnin rich but other than that, nothing. My question now though is, how big should the piston and bore be with a 440? It measured out to 86 millimeters? Does that sound right? Also is there any way to visually identify a hotcam?

Oh the story is behind this thing is i traded my camaro for it and Everything that the dude told me about it is what i know. If it is true? That i dont know.

Also Pro-rider...that had to be a bad day right there....

yeah, it was a bad day, the rod bearing went, the caused the rod to break, then through my case, and pieces of my case broke my radiator, but its going to be built into a 500R!!!

Ok so is there a good right up on here anywhere about getting the cam and crank and all lined back up properly? I put it on the f and i know how the cam was but id like to make sure its right...

John451
06-26-2008, 10:13 PM
Well u need to get the srtoke at TDC (top dead center) and have the marking lined up on the magneto if there's a little plug that you can unscrew on the side cover u take that out and get the marking lined up in that. Then there should be a line going across the cam so you get that sitting in the right place so it sits right and get the line horizontal with the head and put the chain on.

big95xj
06-27-2008, 03:58 PM
Ok so i got it put back together today. BUT i cant seem to get the timing right. I set it as close as i can to horizontal and its off on one side. THEN i move it over a tooth and its off on the other side. I cant get it perfect so i tried it on both sides and it does the same thing. It will go and i qoute the engine here "crank crank bloop bloop crank crank bloop bloop crank crank and so on..." It does this on both sides off perfect. I would think it would run if i could get it perfect but i cant seem to do so....any suggestions?

And thanks for the responses and help guys!

Sounds like the cam chain is stretched.

John451
06-27-2008, 09:06 PM
Yeah, sounmds like it might be stretched. Try tightening the cam chain more before u replace it tho.

Try tightening it? I don't think that is possible.

There is an auto adjuster on the cam chain. If that is out of adjustment, it is time for a new chain.

Get the CRF450 cam chain. More durable and alot less money.

The thing i dont understand is it ran great before i messd wiht it...

Did the piston somehow come in contact with a valve? I would do a compression test on it.

big95xj
06-29-2008, 07:15 PM
No but i did manage to lose my decompression spring and pin. So i think that may have a thing or two to do with it...

Really? I coulda sworn it had a tensioner on the cylinder.. And im thinkin that if its not getting compression i would blame it on the decompression thing u were talking about. Sounds like it might be open a lil bit because the spring might have been keeping it closed and it not being there is causing it to be open? Kinda hard for me to tell without seeing it. I don't own a 400 either so i can't really picture it.

Well good news. I Figured it out and it runs like a champ! :D But anyhow i put the decompression pin and spring in then i decided to try adjusting the valves again and i had to take about three turns off of the adjuster before the intake valves loosened up enough to get the feeler gauge in there. So i think that was the problem but like i said it runs great.

Thanks for all the info and help guys. You all are always very helpful...

440 is a 89 mm bore...also, hotcams from what i have seen are all clearly labled so there shouldnt be any doubt if its a hotcam

Yeah thats what ive heard and it pisses me off cuz i just got the thing and i traded my 88 IROCZ for it. The Camaro had a blown motor but not once did i lie to the kid about it i was straight up and honest and it turned around to bite me in the a**.

So i went ridin today with a buddy and ended up pullin his Z400 about 2 miles back to camp...i dont know i just found that a lil comical. I just put my motor back together last night, got it running well this morning, then i had pull his back that has been runnin great for years...

Yeah, i always buy broken bikes, fix em and sell em. I always have bikes flyin in and outa here. Never once did I lie about them. I ****ing hate all the dickheads who tell all these stupid lies about their ****boxes just so you overpay for them. That pisses me off sooo much.
