View Full Version : 300ex/400ex shockmounts for sale

Guys I dont sell these anymore. Im no suspension expert. Talk to Jeff@thequadshop about these things. Hes been using the shockmounts with 400ex shocks and extended 300ex a-arms. When i did this the only good thing I got out of it was better shocks for jumping but it sucked when i started harescrambles cuz of the horrible bump steer. The quad was way too twitchy. Listen too jeff, he has done alot of testing and knows his stuff.

here is a pic the top bar with the prp logo is the shockmount, there is one on each side of the original shock mount, it all bolts up and will be available in red and black. It is made of 1 by 3/8" steel and 2 by 3/8" steel. It is strong as a mother and just as tough to cut. So you would save yourself a big pain in the arse to buy them from me.

i just got the pics taken, and i havent had any probs with the tie rods hittin anything. The pics are kinda bad and the quad is dirty, im revising the plans on the mounts, they are gonna be a bit better designed, since im having a professional cut the metal. Ill have the pics up in a few minutes.

I would prob be very intrested in them, how much are you asking still 80? that seems a little steep...looks very good the second one looks alot better i would stick with that design. It looks just like the 400 angle...got to love those stock 400 shocks...i'm just keeping the stock back i've hit some pretty big jumps and never bottomed it out...

frozenh2o
12-05-2002, 08:38 AM
You're gonna need steering stops, trust me. Take off the spring, reinstall the shock and compress it all the way, then turn the bars to full lock. The tie rod castle nut will hit the lower a-arm. It's gonna be painful if the tie rod end breaks off!!!!

Nice design, looks like you put a lot of thought into it. I would try to get the top spacing identical to a 400ex, so a guy could order a shock set up for a 400. Any change in the angles and the shock mfg won't get it right unless you give them a bunch of measurements that are difficult to make.

Also, feel free to copy my design, it lets you use the stock fender mount without mods. Uses a 3/4" square tube as the crossbar. Some pics are on another thread here.

Hey toby, I might need one of ur mounts, im not sure yet. Do you think you could custom make one for me? My works shocks are 15 and 3/4 inches long, from the end to end. Im not sure if I measured them correctly, heres a pic of how I measured them -
Im just wondering if you would be willing to custom make the mount for me if I needed it, thanx alot man.

Ya, I really have no idea whats goin on w/ them. I think it might have to do w/ the angle of the shocks tho. Im still wating for the stiffer springs for them, so as soon as I get them I'll see how it is, I might want to get ur mount so the angle is the same as a stock 300 or stock 400. Are there any braces behind the mount? Can you post a pic of the back of the mount? Thanx man

The bracing you are talking about, is that the metal bar thing that supports the fenders? I cut that outta mine to fit a mount in there, my neighbor was makin one for me, but when I got my shocks they were shorter then expected so I didnt use it. Cutting that piece out doesnt effect nething at all.

dad400ex
12-08-2002, 02:38 PM
This only my 2 cents, but I really think these are scarey to use,the stock shock mount should be cut off and a new one made and welded on(not bolted)with the correct degree angles, especially if you plan on using the 400ex a-arms.As this is the way I changed my 300ex to use the front shocks,a-arms,and I even use a stock 400ex swingarm on my 300ex.thanks and I'll help out whoever wants to mod their 300ex correctly, thanks

I fabricated many mods for things to work for quads and I found out a long time ago,if you start something,go all the way or why bother in the first place. You do you need the correct degree angle.I'm sorry if I upset anyone over just 2cents.Remember :Its always better to over kill on a Mod. than to be under.....

nice design, i'm gonna make me a set out of stainless and polish them:D ooooo shiney *drool*

maybe I'll round off a few edges, tweak it just a bit for looks... maybe weld it too, i dunno ...and before you guys even ask I am only making 2 of these, and one of them's going on my quad, the other on my girl's 250x. I'm not looking to steal any of toby's bussiness;)

Edit: maybe me, tinner, and toby should get into the air scoop/shock mount/skid plate business:huh

I dont suggest this, stainless steel isnt as strong and may bend easier.

It handled pretty well. The steering was kinda twitchy though. Well worth it though.
