04 yfz450 smoking bad what could it be

Hi, I know a guy wanting to sell an 04 yfz450 (for pretty cheap) But obviously needs work. Mostly cosmetic but when I went to check it out it smoked....bad. At first not so much but then taking off it reminded me of my old 2 stroke with way too much oil. He says its been doing it fo a long time ut he doesnt ride it much and nevergot itfixed. Any ideas on what it possibly could be? Thanks, Jimmy

it could possibly be the piston rings. If it runs smoothly then you really have nothing to worry about except to get new piston rings. This will not be expensive if you know how to get to the cylinder.

could also be bad valve seals

Prolly broke a ring. If its cheap enough buy it, you can get rings for like 30$ and if it needs a cylinder you can get one for about 240$ or maybe less and then you'll have a pretty much new motor.

Well I thought it may be the ring all though he said to have had the top end redone a while back so thats what led me to beleive it was something else. Neverthe less it sounds like it may not be a major thing to fix, you think....

Easy fix man, rings and gasket kit should be all you need. Well on second thought, I would replace the timing chain too. Check the valves and make sure they are set right and adjusted.
