Dustin Wimmer took the top spot in qualifying Saturday for tomorrow's Oakley ATV Southern National at Muddy Creek Raceway. The event is Round 8 of the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Motocross Championship.

Wimmer (No. 191 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki) turned in the top time of one minute, 54.633 seconds during the final session to beat out his teammate Chad Wienen (No. 44 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki) and Josh Creamer (No. 9 Monster Energy Kawasaki).

"The promoters did a lot of preparation with the track," said Wimmer of Sam Gammon and his Victory Sports Racing crew. "They mixed a lot of sawdust into the dirt and it really helped hold the moisture into the track.

"The track is pretty fast and there aren't a lot of places to pass, so getting a good start is going to be crucial tomorrow," added Wimmer. "It's great to have Chad back too. Our team is back in full force and I'm looking forward to seeing all Suzukis at the front tomorrow."

Wienen returned to action this weekend after missing a race due to shoulder injuries and is riding a brand new quad. The time off must have been good for the Galena, Ill. resident, as he was only one second off Wimmer's time.

Jason Dunkelberger (No. 19 East Coast ATV Racing), Cody Miller (No. 22 Can-Am), Hunter Miller (No. 90 Golden West Cycles Yamaha) and Brock Lyons (No. 43 Rath Racing/Dunlop Polaris) qualified for tomorrow's finals through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ).

Rich Stambach, Steve Runkel, Michael Brown, John Ragon, Greg Meeks, Trent Kandel and Thomas Hager didn't qualifying for the 20-quad field.

The Oakley ATV Southern National continues tomorrow with Pro finals scheduled at noon and at 3 p.m., as well as a full program of Pro-Am, Amateur, Youth, and Women's racing.

The 1st moto was pretty hot, with Byrd grabbing the early lead and Wimmer shadowing him. Wimmer made the pass clean and set the pace to the checkered flag. byrd made a run or two but Wimmer would just pull away!

Thomas Brown had a great win over Clay Holmes in Pro Am.

Pappy
06-22-2008, 12:07 PM
Pro AM just launched and it was Cody Gibson grabbing the holeshot.

Gibson hard on the gas and opening up room with Denoble in 2nd, Mitch Reynolds moving up with Holmes in 4th, Brown running 5th

Pappy
06-22-2008, 12:10 PM
Gibson rockin' on out front, Denoble still holding second, Reynolds may have just went end over end giving Holmes the 3rd spot

Pappy

Gibson with a commanding lead over Denoble, Brown on a mission as he works on Holmes for the 3rd spot

Gibson on auto pilot as Denoble settled for 2nd until Holmes and Brown came up on him. Brown needs 3rd to claim overall

Krista is doing very well.. I just got off the phone with her. She had her surgery Tuesday morning and will start her rehab on her leg Weds. They had to wait because she had internal bleeding from a laserated liver.. But all in all she will be ok and will be doing her concert still in August at Loretta Lynn's

I also just wanna say thanks to everyone who is still supporting Jason(DUNK) right now.. Its been a ruff couple races. This past weekend has been the first time we had something fail on the bike. Mostly the last few races have been all motor issues which we have no control over. The bugs have been worked out though and look for Jason to be back up front starting in Pleasure Valley!!

Great to hear Krista is doing well we will miss her bright smile at the track. I am sure she will be up and going long before the doctors say she will. They don't know her like her racing family does she is one tough gal. If anyone has an address that we could send her get well cards that would be appreciated .
GET WELL SOON KRISTA WE LOVE YOU

too bad east coast atv assembles the motors and rage atv doesnt and im pretty sure you have full control over the way his race bike performes maybe if east coast atv didnt cut corners with robbing used parts off of other bikes and from amatuer racers in spite of them trying to acheive there goals you would have a little better luck.......karmas a b!tch
