I think it's a great idea if there's enough head clearance between the gas tank. The XR650 ranks as one of my favorite big bore 4's. It's the last of the oldskool 4 stroke motors that gave the 4 stroke design it's reputation as being bullet proof and low maintenance. Now a days the they are tuned to the edge and are higher maintenance then 2 strokes were at a higher cost. Either way I say do it and start a build up thread- I'd follow it for sure :)

ehhh id do it in a bigger quad.. 400ex.. 450. that way the rad is already there.. unless you already have the blaster frame.. then go for it.. plan on getting a longer swinger tho. if the motor will even fit

now the problem is finding the money!!!
i'm 14 but have rebuilt many engines by my self and they turned out great, and dad has 20 years of tool and die background so i think we can make it work...

i don't have the engine yet but i do have a frame(not a blaster one though ):(
it's a '85 ATC200X

i think i'll try it:D

i'll post back when i find the big bore

i think you should save your money and do it in a quad frame.. even if you get it to work youll be like... damnn.. i wish this thing had a suspension so i could actually trail ride it.

you obviously havent ridden an ATC...

the 200x, 350x, 250r have great suspension for trail riding, but require ALOT more rider skill though...

i love my suspension on the ATC200X
i like 3 wheelers better than 4 wheelers for you can manuver the atc's alot easyer
and there a challenge to ride in some situations in which makes them fun

I personally think it would be a giant waste of time...

For the amount of money it would cost, you might as well buy a quad that you would NOT have to put a whole lot of work into.

id def follow it for sure...i have ridden ATC's but nothing i liked..

first time i drove one was becasue well i had no choice..the kid was stuck ina stream and had 2 choices go up a big hill he had no chance against , or chance submerging the trike.. he handed thte bike off to me and i took it up the hill...

on my way back to the trail to give it to him i pulled a wheelie and the thing was flipping backwards (im not used to such a light front end) i slammed on the brakes and the thing hit the ground and bounced back up lmao.

idk some people love trikes but i sure as hell dont... i just dont see how someone can go fast through a trail on one.

but do it if thats what you like..,,it would be sweet either way :macho

So we're going to wedge a monster motor geared for 100+ mph into the worst handling chassis possible...........:huh

i have a 2001 xr650r motor for sale that needs a new rod bearing. listen to rusty on this one, cool idea, something different, but totally impractical, waste of awesome motor, and probably down right dangerous. wouldnt be so bad if you had some hydraulic disk brakes on it but still there are much better frames to use, not to mention i never liked the idea of mix matching different manufacturers. trust me if you look around you can find a cheap roller. i bought a 2005 trx450r roller with everything except exhaust motor and carb for only $1200. you could probably find a 99 400ex roller for a couple hundred bucks if you waited and looked hard enough.
