Is it stock? Any mods done to it?

My guess is that it's starting to get tired. It's always harder to start a tired bike then a freshly rebuilt one. Buy a compression tester (if you don't already have one) and check the compression of both cylinders. If it's real healthy, it will be somewhere around 110 and up. If it's starting to get tired, it till be a little over 100 or under 100.

Does mid-range break up at all? Did it always start hard?

Yes, buy a compression tester and give it a test. Depending on the modifications, your reading will tell you if the bike needs a rebuild or not. Banshees hate to start when it is time for one...
