It usually depends on the conditions. Harder sand, run more PSI, softer, run less. Too low pressure and you'll get "cupping" in the tire (or roll it off the bead!) and too high will make the tire balloon and you'll ride on the center, losing contact patch.
I usually start with around 4psi in my haulers and 5 in the fronts (mohawks). Seems to me anymore than 5 or so in the front and the tire will dig a lot and just slow you down.

I run 4 at the most in my banshee, for the rears. I used to run about 8, then I saw a guy at florence explode a rear tire at 12 PSI on his banshee while drag racing, blowing off his rear fender and hurting his leg a bit.

I'm from Newberg, up near Portland, but I go to school at Oregon State.

It all depends on the conditions of the sand, whether its wet or not.

And GBC uses hard rubber compounds in their tires. Imagine doing that with haulers, serious wrinkle wall action!

Andrew- when are you done for Christmas Break?? I work (seismic and structural research)/take graduate courses in structural engineering up at PSU. I believe you're on my email list of local riders. I'm going to head over to Redmond to ride with Rob (one of the other riders in the group). We're thinking of heading to Christmas Valley for a day ride. Anyway, I'm off from the 14th until the 5th of January. If you're headed to the dunes let me know. I'd like to finally meet up with you, and get some more people out for a ride.

Oh, and he's good friends with the guys out at powroll, so I figured I'd go in there and see Kory Eliss's new $25,000 TT racer that they are working on.

That's cool. I'm done dec. 12th. I want to head to the dunes soon since I'm going through withdrawls! It will probably be a couple weeks until I can get my R finished though. I still have some motor and work to get done, along with getting the rear shock revalved. I could probably take the Suzuki as long as I don't try to jump it or anything. haha. I'm hoping to drop the motor off friday or saturday and I'm not sure how long it will take to get done (just need to do some more porting to scavenge those last few horsepower). The group I ride with was planning a trip in January, but going in December would be cool too.
That would rock to see Eliss' new TT bike!
I'm sure we'll also be taking a trip or two to Sandlake before Christmas if you want to go there.

That's cool, just give me a couple day's notice, and I'll be able to go to Sandlake, Winchester, or wherever.
