Ive got a 400ex and would you say its better to have wider A-arms than axle, wider axle than a-arms, or about even. I have a +2 lonestar xcaliber axle with removable wheel spacers which i do not have in now. Would it be smart to get off set rims and wheel spacers up front and add the wheel spacers in the back for an overall wider stance?

If you have the axle use that instead of wheel spacers. You are going to get alot of different opinions about wheel spacers. They will be ok in the front until you can get extended a-arms.

the front should be wider than the rear but not by much

im gonna throw alittle question in here. if your looking at specifications on, lets say a modded 250r. You look at the A-arms and it says +2 +1. Where does that second number come in and does that mean like + 2 more inches than stock?

+2+1 means that each a arm is +2 inches wider then stock and +1 inch forward

Even -wider is better front or rear .If you are racing dont go over 50 inches . Dont use spacers if you are jumping .You also want to keep the front rim offset about stock ,to much offset and your front wheels will not track straight .
good luck

Spacers on the front shouldn't be to bad. I had spacers on the rear and I cracked them right in half. And why would having it wide in the front then in the back be better? I always had it wider in the back. I think having them even is better :huh

Sorry for the miscomunication I ment wider is better front and rear (even ).

Go wider in the rear first definitly..that's what I did,,i couldn't imagine having a wider front end than the rear. You need that rear end wide to help slide thru corners, help ya be more stable in all areas..etc etc. etc.

no you want the front and rear even. waht rico was saying is that if you have to decide get a wider axle before you get wider a-arms.

Has anyone watch the heuvos4 video? Most the pro riders on there have it wider in the front than in the rear by just a little bit. My X is 49" in the front and 48" in the rear. Having it this way will reduce two wheeling it in the corner because the weight in the front (which is where alot of the momentum is heading) is distributed farther out when turning. Picking up what im laying down?

I included some pics of mine, not the best angles, but if you know how to look at them and decipher the angles then you will see that my front is slightly wider. The front shot pic you can see how nice my front plastic is since one side got busted up. Along with my left side nerf bar being slightly bent from landing on some slow monkey on a 400ex. Oh well...... Also notice the trick front end setup with 250R aarms and shocks, all still stock though.

how hard was it to get that 250r rear shock and swinarm on there?

If you have the swingarm on there the shock should mount on pretty easy.

i'm 48 1/2" in the front and 47 3/4" in the rear and my bike holds the ground great. i also noticed a very big difference in the snow!! it really made a big difference. it's all a matter of opigion but i like to keep the front and back close to the same with.

while we are on the subject of axles and A-arms, I was wondering what is a good size axle i should go with i want to get a lonestar axle but should i go +1, +2, i dont know i am going to be racing mx as soon as the season starts

acutally there is only one Lonestar Axcalibur axle to buy. The spacers come with it to adjust it from stock, to +2, to +4. So just go with it and if you are racing MX make it +4 as long as you have a arms to match.

the width made it track a ot better on packed trails. up here all our trails, (6000 miles of them) are groomed like the snowmobile trails. i love it!!!! the width made it much more stable in the corners.
