Is she a bulldog or a pitbull?? Two totally different dogs. Either way , nice looking dog ... they're so cute when they're small , too bad they can't stay that size.

Pit Bull is not a term. American Pit Bull Terrier is a specific breed of dog. English Bull dog and American Bull Dog are different types of breeds. You have an American Pit Bull Terrier i take it. NOT a Bull Dog.

Techinically she is an Amercan Pitbull Terrier.

I just dont like saying that she is a 'Pit-bull' just for the fact that everyone around here takes that to mean that its a fighting dog.

Michael Vick should go choke.:chinese:

Pure pit bull's (not these massive dogs people call pitbulls) only get between 50 - 80 lbs. The dogs you see that are 100 lb beefcakes have been crossed with mastiff's for size. Real pit's are slim bulging muscle balls, that were bread for aggression and gameness(unwilling to quit). Not bashing anyone just want to clarify. My dog is a red boy top and bottom,
true pit fighter. His line comes from three generations of national pit fighting champions(which I don't condone in any way). this is what the dogs where bread to do, and you can tell simply by the attitude which the dog carries.

2 years old 75 lbs of solid rock, never fought by me but hates the sight of another dog.

Not necessarily. My APBT at 10 months wieghted in at almost 85 lbs. He will most likely be around a 100 lbs. when hes done growing. His mother (a blue Brindle) was around 59 lbs when i picked him up and she was still plumped up from having pups. Dad (a solid Blue with just a white chest) was 16 months old at 63 lbs. My dog his huge compared to his dad, he hust doesn't have the width of his dads head or chest yet.

It sounds like your dog has amstaff across the line somewhere. It is rare to find a APBT wieghing in that high, though there are some. Purely bread pits shouldn't get that big, most of the bloodlines have been Americanized.

man..........how can you not love that face??? you would have to be extremely cold hearted not to. i have a 10 year old english bulldog, red brindle. she has been my baby and best friend ever since i laid my eyes on her when i got her when she was 9 months old. she is around 55lbs and her chest is about 6 inches off the ground, just a little linebacker. btw, all the pics of everybodies dogs are great

Ill buy that. I believe all APBT and AmStaffs are the same. I think the AmStaff might have had more extensive breeding with a Bull Dog or some short wide dog, other than that they are the same genetic wise.

its more controlled breeding which will give you a more predictable dog. Its another reason why pits arent a recognized breed where as staffies are........amstaffs are only supposed to weigh in the 40-50 lb range as well. As for pits there are generally 2 divisions. Pitbull terrier and american pitbull terrier. The pitbull is the smaller (40-50) with the shorter legs and the American which will be the tall ones USUALLY weight between 60-80.

The APBT IS a recognized breed.!? There is NO PITBULL TERRIER, it is now an American PitBull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and a Bull Terrier, but no Pitbull Terrier.

Chew on this: The American Kennel Club (AKC) did not recognize the breed. The United Kennel Club (UKC) did and registered it as a Pit Bull Terrier later to become the American Pit bull Terrier as the official name for the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It wasn't until "Pete", the UKC registered Pit bull Terrier from the "Our Gang" comedy series achieved national attention in 1935 that the AKC recognized the breed and entered "Pete" as the first dual registered (UKC & AKC) Pitbull. The breed was registered as a Staffordshire Terrier and that name was adjusted in 1972 to what we now know as the American Stafforshire Terrier. (Am Staff) The American Staffordshire Terrier is the AKC's equivalent to the UKC's American Pit bull Terrier.

As you see the AKC knowingly registered an American Pit Bull Terrier as a American Staffordshire Terrier. Which shows that the AKC didn't like the history behind the name PIT BULL, and thought they would register the breed under a different name.

Have you been drinking?

so if i wanted a pitbull like the thread starter.. what would the breed of the dog be? and can they be okay around other dogs?

416exfreak
06-22-2008, 12:58 PM
They can be ok around other dogs if you raise it around other dogs.

Naturally they are aggresive, but my dad's buddy has two full grown pit bulls that stay together all the time and they dont act aggresive towars each other in the least.

As long as you dont get a game dog (fighting pit bull) then you'll be able to take it places with you. My pup is bred through show dogs and weight pulling dogs. I cant wait to see what she looks like when she's full grown. Her dad looked like Arnold in his 20's!
