Hey guys. I have a '05 450 and the intake valves need adjustment again. I had them done about 8 months ago. My local shop recommended that I replace the intake valves not just adjust them this time. They said that the 04' / '05 bikes were known for bad valves. How many times and how frequently do you guys adjust valves before you change them. If I change them should I go with stock replacements or something else? Should I also do the exhaust valves even though they are in adjustment? Would $200 be a reasonable price for replacement using stock valves?

Thanks,

Rick

I usually do my own simple stuff (bearings, jetting, etc.) and Holeshot Cycle does my engine work.

TTT.
Come on guys. I can't be the first person to wonder if the valves should be changed. Or what it should cost.

Put new valves and springs in. It will wake up your 450, and be sure to check the clearance after you put about 5 hours on it.

after a few adjustments put in some oem honda valves and have the seats recut. its not only the 04/05s. its all the honda 450s. they eat intake valves.

Also if you keep them shimmed often you shouldn't have to replace them hardly at all. or at least very rarely.

I got three years out of my original stock valves on my 05 and when i did replace them I went with oem. lapped the valves and they sealed up tight. next time I'll replace or recut seats runs strong
