hate it!! yea it is cool because it has efi but when are quads goin to be different again? having a line up where all the quads look the same is getting rediculous

06-15-2008, 11:00 PM
wow I really didn't think any company was gonna drop the EFI bomb on a 400. Either way thats cool. I wish I had efi:(

Heading in the right direction w/ EFI, but I HATE how all the 400's are starting to look more and more like 450's. It's becoming hard to tell them apart.

Pretty nice, but will we ever see the ltr250f quad that has been talked about for the past couple of years??

Look at the head pipe or just the engine in general ;)

EFI is the sexx. I love having it on my dad's raptor 700. It makes it so easy to tune or just make adjustments for the weather or riding conditions...:)

Honda has some trick things that are way ahead of the game on that but then they have the 400ex which is decades behind the other 400's. It don't make sense to me.

I wonder how hard it would be to adapt the EFI system off the z400 to the 400ex...

good luck with that one, and EFI is overated too everyone thinks so highly of it when look at how much tuners are versus how much jets are.

Well I never plan on getting any more major mods for the 400ex, being with the banshe, im just using the 400 as a trail bike. So with just an exhaust and maybe a cam/piston in the future, i dont need a tuner

overall i like the new z, yeah i totally agree the 400's being 450 clones is getting a little old (and the 400ex lookin like a yfz isnt helping maters either), but has anyone seen how much this thing is yet? that may be the deciding factor to either get an ex or a gently used 450 for less than a z would cost (i dont know but im guessing itll cost more than folks are willing to pay for a 400), and if kawi comes out with a 400 thats a 450 replica im gonna scream :D.....

oh yeah so true man how did you know? WRONG! I could seriously care less about having an EFI, i rather spend $20 on all the jets I will ever need rather than spending $100 + for a EFI tuner. Yeah yeah EFI, it adds more weight and isnt really doing that much more. Theres a couple LTR guys that put carbs on their LTR and took the EFI off. Instead of having an EFI I much rather have updated shocks or a better cooling system.

So...your going to buy better air for your 400ex:confused:

EFI is the way to go. Easier to tune, more efficient, can be more fine tuned for maximum performance, offers better throttle response and the engine will keep running even at extreme angles.

If I could put EFI on my 440, it would be there already.:macho

looks like they just put on new plastic and the efi system. Looks like it could be a good xc quad if the efi system could take the abuse.

I don't think honda is having any problems selling the 400ex. 3 guys around here just bought new ones. For some people it is the perfect quad. Some people just like to jump on there quad and ride. Not everybody wants fancy junk that can just add potential problems. If you want something more they got the model you want the 450r.

I like it. I mean I love my 400 but after riding a buddy's z450 the throttle response was so crisp and responsive i don't think i can ever think the same way about a carb again, so I can only imagine thats how the z400 will be. Good job suzuki on a job well done.

Tell me about it. At Breezewood everyone thought my 450 was a 400ex because of the Fullbores. That makes me feel good about myself..

I think its awesome the new Z has EFI. Who the heck is going to buy a 400ex now? Smart move by Suzuki!

obviously you havnt rode a quad with efi. crisp quick throttle response, never having to jet, reliable, sounds like jealousy to me.

any way sorry to hear you dont like efi....because it will be replacing carbs from now on. in 10 years you can say good bye to any quads with carbs.

EFI 400 EX, Haha it's not even liquid cooled yet. The 400 EX has become a cheap starter quad now.

Im excited as we were planning on a 400ex for cody next year but seeing the FI Z has us regrouping. If he grows a bit more we will bypass the 400 class all together, but the FI will make riding the machine a snap and smooooth. Maybe I can talk Zuki into a ride for next year!

if reliability is not a issue go with a z400. this is coming from someone who has owned one. the 400ex has been great to me. it should of been my first quad 10 years ago. if i where looking for a new quad it would be either a ktm or 400ex.:macho

Pappy, do you think you will get one of these to do a test report on?

I'm really interested in your opinion, especially if you have experience to compare it to the older Z400.

Do you think this will handle any different or is it just the same old way of doing things by redesigning plastic around the old frame, much like Honda does?

I know everyone on this site is efi happy but i dont get what all the big fuse is about.

Its nice to have efi for better throttle response and maybe a crisper feel but is it really worth the extra $600 or so for it.

Most people who ride quads are just your everyday joe who rides around in his woods for recreation. I honestly would not feel a difference between a quad with a carb and a quad with efi.

I ride for fun on trails like most people and a basic quad like the 400ex does a great job of what i need it for. Most people dont need all the jazzy stuff like liquid cooled or efi to ride.

i give the efi a thumbs up, but i like the look of my dads 06 z400 better:ermm: i hate how all these companies are making all their quads look the same...

It's a inch wider, so it should handle a bit better. But the Z is a bit on the heavy side at 425lbs wet with only a 2.6 gal tank. Dry last year was 373lbs. So where is there 52lbs? The fluids might weigh 25lbs, so where is the other 27lbs?

heres a question.

how come manufacturers never produce what the consumer wants, as far as quads?

alot of people complain about the looks of the quads copying 450's, among other things.. so why do they do it anyway?
