View Full Version : Clearance Questions and Decking...

After the steady stream of good decking information, I decided to deck my cylinder to get at least an 11:1 compression ratio with my Wiseco big bore kit.
Do you guys know if I will have valve-to-piston clearance issues with the White Brothers Track cam I have installed in the bike now?
Thanks, Steve.

I've got the Wiseco 440, decked, with the same cam (450/451-GTT, WB Race) and it has plenty of piston to valve clearance. The pocket diameter is larger than stock so I wouldn't think there would be any issues with OS valves either. You might want to use some heavier valve springs if you plan on taking advantage of that rev box alot.

Thank you Mike. I've noticed you've been quite a contributor to the good decking information on this board-thank you.
Mike, how much metal can I safely remove from the cylinder?
I have not measured yet but everybody says the piston is about .040 in the hole with this kit.
If I remove .030 of metal, use a .010 base gasket and a .025 head gasket I will be about 11:1 correct?
Is it not a good idea to remove .035 or .040 metal and use the same gaskets (.10/.025) to achielve a little higher compression ratio? Will THIS cause clearance issues or other problems and what compression ratio will it yield?
Finally Mike, what can I expect a machine shop to want $$ wise for milling my cylinder?
Thanks again, Steve.

Steven..........dont keep making new threads, just add to the same one.:)
b4 you can get into the "nitty gritty" you need to install the piston and base gasket and get some measurements, then go back and re-read the original thread to answer or create most of your NEW questions and we will go from there.
I had found that there are too many variables for anyone to just throw out numbers. Some of the original info was spot on and a little out there for my set up so you really need to get the measurements first.
Steven. I would start using race gas. After 11:1 you should be using race gas, or higher octane

I do. I have been running Cam2 race gas because I thought my c/r was 11:1.
Now I need to get it there.
Boy that motor must have been running sweet :).
I had originally tried 112 octane with my recent rebuild (true 12.5:1) and it was super fat (rich) and am now working with diff ratios of 112 and 93 to see where it likes to be at. So far at 50-50 and no signs of detonation etc so gonna thin it out a little next tank.
So I can only imagine how bad it was running race fuel with around 9:1

It ran well with the cam2 race gas and 9.5:1 compression.
Cam2 is only 100 octane.
