so u just leave the switch on all the time or reach under there and turn it on and off?

just drill a hole in the top of your hood or the side of your plastics. works great :)

There are many bolt on brackets out there.

Houser racing makes one.
LSR racing makes one.

Some are just modified clamps like these.

You could fab one up yourself even. If you do it neatly though a couple zip ties will fix everything.

Ya i just leave it on all the time, if i walk away from it when out riding ill take the key with me but thats it. It might be a different story if you have a battery though

You need the keyswitch. It controls your lights and your cooling fan. I have Protaper handlebars and still retain everything it had with the stock bars.

Here is my set up. It is just a steering stem clamp bolted to my anti vibe mount. It is the perfect diameter for the key.

not if you know how to work the wiring. If you have a 04/05 or any kicker for that matter, just cut the switch out completly. Going into the key there are four wires, two which are the same color. All you need to worry about is the black and red wire, and all you need to do is splice those two together and wha la! Fan works, lights work and you no longer have the hassle of finding a spot for the key. Now either just stall the motor while holding the brakes or pull the kill switch to kill the motor :D (Plus this saves a whole 1.5 lbs. Who wouldnt want that??? lol)

drilled mine in the fender (kind of hides it but still easy to get to)

and I put the lights in the flat part of the hood so I can still see them easy

Yeah I know that thanks for sharing with me! :D But anyways the guy who had my 450 before me had the wiring Jerry Rigged. My light and fan didn't work. And plus it lost power right when I first got it and wouldn't run. It was those wires! They were grounded to some metal at the frame and some random bracket. And it had came loose. So I got the keyswitch. But who wouldn't want a keyswitch if you live in a area with alot of crime and not alot of shelter to store your atv? lol.

luckly i dont live in an area where i have to keep my atv unprotected. Plus, if someone wants to steal your quad, they are going to steal it with or without a key switch. Just sayin.....lol

I mounted my Key switch and my Lights in the flat part of the hood/cowl. Easy to get to, out of the way and still easy to see the lights.

5/8" Drill Bit for the lights. The Light caps pop out of the rubber boots.

1" Drill bit for the Key Switch. I used a small file and made a notch in the hole to fit the tab so the key drum does not spin around in the hole. The key switch is unplugged from the harness under the hood and fed through your newly drilled hole and plugged back in.

Looks like it came from the factory this way, just take your time and decide what you like best....

its been a while since I did mine, I think I put it on the left because of the length of wire and the radiator cap

The nut goes all the way through the bolt. It works really well...
