im thinking about putting a 13.5:1 compression piston and some stage 1 hot cams on a standard bore z400. Does this sound like a good combination and has anyone had any problems or issues with this sort of set up?

Not sure if your aware that the Z uses a 3 layer base gasket. A popular mod is to add the single layer found on the DRz dirt bike engine. This adds some of the lowend you loose with adding cams. Nice compliment either way. You can still use pump gas with the gasket. The 13.5 means you may have to switch to race fuel to get the octane up. I don't remember off hand but I think it bumps it to 12:1. I'm considering doing the DRz mod to mine.

yeah 13:5:1 is definately talkin race fuel. ur going to need at least 104 oct. and goes for about 55-60 bucks at sunoco for a 5 gallon jug but it's worth it if your gonna race.

well actually with the 3 layer gasket and a 13.5:1 piston you get 12.6:1 ,and with that setup you can run premium pump gas (93)
