400ex frame and a arms from an 01 are in good shape but where the weld spots are its pretty rough.i sanded the areas and wire brushed them to the bare metal .there are no cracks just cosmetic rust.I want to paint the frame(cant afford powder coat)and would like ideas on products to use and steps to take to get this old girl back to her prime.I was told to use some port 13 or something like that ...but any ideas guys???

You could get a wire wheel for an angle grinder that would take it down to rust pretty good. I painted my frame and I used a sandblaster and aircraft remover to get all the paint and rust off.

what kind of paint did you use?

I used some primer and then I used Dupicolor. I didn't turn out too bad but the bottom of my frame a lot of the paint got scraped off. I would say use a good primer like Krylon galvanizing and then Dupicolor and then a good extra hard clear coat.

Rustoleum seems to hold up better than duplicolor. We have tried both. It mostly depends on the prep though and how you paint it.
