Im tryin to decide what color combo i wanna do with my 400ex..

so many great choices out there..id really like to see some pics posted of different ideas..

nothing stock plz..
but different color'd plastics or maybe stock plastics with a nice powder coated frame ..just something

i have quite a few ideas ie blk plastics with a maroonish color frame and have different accents to go with it

also white plastics with a blue frame/accents

or blk/grey/carbonfiber etc..just really dont know which way to go..

i really wanted to match it up to whatever color truck i buy..but maybe this will help..cuz im undecided about that as well

so plz post different color combo's to help decide..thanks

Same scheme as him... But not nearly as nice... Honestly if you want to stand out, don't go down the Gray/Black road... Although some carbon fiber might look pretty trick... And if you got the money... Maybe some Junkie Fiber :p ... But idk if he does hondas.

i definitely love the grey/blk scheme...the was going to be the original scheme but then i started thinking a nice dark red accent would look good..
and im definitely going with a black engine regardless of anything else..
and i also thought about the carbon fiber plastics..id really like to see how they look on the bike

im not really lookin to stand out..just want something that looks good and very clean like wheelies
when its that clean/smooth looking..it stands out.. :D
the only other thing is i want the one piece front or so i think..

as of right now my plastics dont align nicely..the seat doesnt go all the way up and theres a gap between it and the plastics
also my rear plastics dont stay where they should and im missing a seat gromet as well..

this is my biggest worry is that ill get new plastics/seat and it still wont align properly..
wheelie urs look beautiful..did u have any issues aligning the plastics..also were the previous plastics unaligned ??

Thanks for the compliments.

I didn't have any plastic alignment issues before the rebuild. The rear Maier plastic fit well and required little tweaking to get it to look right. The front was more difficult, it ultimately came out looking decent.

The key to installing aftermarket plastics is take your time, mock fit them several times until you get the look and fit that you'll be happy with. Be patient, it will pay off in the end.

I'm considering Lime green and metal flake/metallic blue frame black a-arms. Kinda like this

im more..simple i dont care for flashy i like a nice clean look

like i think the blk frame and accents with the clean white plastics will look nice..
i was thinking maybe even a candy color frame or something but im not 100% just yet..
but definitely nice white plastics with a simple sleek graphic design in blk ..then when i get my shocks this week ill probably take the shock and powder coat the spring blk/white/blk so itll match when i get everything :D

Gosh, I feel like my pictures are so played out. I love white and blue, and you mentioned carbon fiber. It's tough to make out the "texture" in some of the pics, so I added the pic of right after I got the hood and plastics together.
My frame will someday be a candy metallic blue. Right now, she's got carbon fiber white Maier plastics, metallic candy blue hood (from GenX Atv), metallic pearl swingarm, and a few other metallic blue accesories.

ya i definitely like that color setup

i wouldnt copy but i do like the idea of the blue metallic

and i love the swingarm..
i just need to figure out a candy or metallic color to go with that stands out for some of my parts sort of like urs..
i think id do the frame/hubs/and some other lttle carefully chosen parts and then paint the motor black or a very dark grey and do the sanding on the heatsinks like wheelie..so it looks cleaner and stands out a little better in a good way..

the carbon fiber does look good i like that its not as plain as just the white..i might consider it over the plain white..but i dont know cause of price :D and i definitely want stock shape/form with the head lights..

and another thing i was thinking is using the black side panels instead of the solid panels.. i kind of like how the black flows with the seat and breaks up the white or cf...but at the same time it flows nicely and seems to be easier to line up and take off etc..

I have a question for those who painted their motors black. What kind of engine enamel or paint did you use? Also how does it hold up, doesn't it burn off? How does it look once it gets dirty is it easy to clean? I only race so the quad doesn't get too muddy so that wouldn't matter that much.

Wheelie
07-09-2008, 07:52 PM
I used high temp ceramic paint. It holds up great to temps, however my riding boots are wearing the paint off on the clutch and stator covers. The paint cleans up well, although it has never looked as good as it did when it was first painted.

Do you know if the engine can be powdercoated? I know it can if you take it apart. I would probably polish the clutch cover and the other side. I think I'll try painting it this winter when we have it apart to weld up the frame and freshen up the motor.

so here is what the 400ex looks like now...i almost went with the white cf plastics from maier, but decided against it...i am still debating on whether to order another cf tank cover from feather carbon...i am looking for another set of flexx bars for a good price...word of warning...don't drop a heaver cooler on them...the bar will bend...the hubs and a few other things will be pc-ed this winter and the seat cover is going to be remounted tonight...i didn't do too bad for doing it by myself though...i also have a maier scooped hood in black that i may stick back on...the fuel vent hose will be black as soon as i find where i put the black hose...houser a-arms are on the way and i have a lonestar antifade hub/nut waiting to be put on so i guess about 85-90% done...
