I'm going to go with a full curtis sparks, should I go with the big core? or the regular? they are the same price. Also what jetting should I run on an 2004 450r with a UNI filter, and no lid? Does anyone know if its good to get the exhaust ceremic coated as well? I gave that some thought too. Post pictures if you've got one too!

How do you know if your curtis sparks exhaust is big or regular core?

the inside of the canister has a diameter of 2 1/2 inches if its a big core and 2 inches if its a regular x-6

the tip is 2 1/4" instead of 2".

from what i understand, the big core is a good idea if you are running a stroker or big bore kit. otherwise, you'll be losing valuable back pressure.

ive got a nice curtis exhaust for sale by the way. im stroking my motor and going with the big core.

go with the big core. if you plan on any mods in the future, you will really want to get it.

Im pretty sure the big core is a waste unless you have motor work. I would stick with the regular one. Also ive read that people dont like the ceremic coating because it eventually wears off and looks like crap. If you keep a stainless header clean, it will look fine for a long time.

As far as the big core I would call up sparks and ask them, they will tell you what is going to work best with your setup. They can also give you pointers on jetting as well as a jet kit with the correct needle. They know what they are talking about just take their advice and dont worry too much with jetting, it will more of a headache then its worth. When I got my Baldwin pipe he asked me a couple questions on my setup, sent me a needle and a main jet and I havnt looked back. Runs fine.

From all the questions I've asked this is definate information. Big core is noticably louder, big core can cause you to lose power from lack of back pressure on smaller bores. The pro's that win on sparks full motors run the regular, people with 470's and above run the regular too. Two representitives told me that they recommend the regular core, and they personally run regular cores so I know better for the future now. Too many people speak ahead saying the big core makes a huge difference, it depends your motor in all cases, and even then its not a fact.

when i was doing my rebuild my builder said that 15:1 compression likes the big core a little better. i ended up getting 12.5:1

I have big core that I bought for a good price used. I noticed it gave it a lot of power over stock. I have a stock motor, and I'm just gonna keep it that way for a while. The way it sounds the reg. core put out better numbers, so my question is can I make my big core into the smaller core? Also will sparks's quiet core, put in under 98/99 dbs?

I think you can change your current exhaust to a regular core, but if you get a quiet core I'm sure it will work perfect then, because it will add alittle back pressure with the quiet core and balance out the exhaust. If you want it under 98/99 db's I say get the quiet core and then your exhaust will run perfectly!
