I think this week I am going to pick up a 2008 525s limited edition. I hope I am making the right choice and that I am not going to wish, i bought a raptor. Do u guys think I will be happy with this machine? I am going to be trail riding it. It will never see sand, i dont think we have any here in upstate ny! I was going to originally get the mxr but i think the small tires will hurt me on trail. I am hoping that it will suit my agressive trail riding style and will pull the front up hard and be a good machine for jumping! I just cant see myself on an irs too heavy for what i like to do! u guys think i am making the right decision i plan on adding ct racing full exhaust kit with the jetting and flex bars and nerf bars and hand guards?

dealer said 6400 otd because i pay no tax due to farm exempt is that a good deal or do u think i should try for better? my dealer is trying to say he is only making like 2 or 3 houndred dollars on me due i believe him no i think he is full of it, Me my dad and my brother bought thirty thousand in sleds from him this winter plus i spent another two in performance parts and another 1500 in helmets and plus lots of other stuff must have spent 35 thousand this winter alone from christmas til march. i think i should pay like 5800 he is trying to say it costs him more then that, I might have to dwindle the thought of a 08 raptor se leftover for a better deal in front of his face. we will see what happens i am going to go back in there to try to negociate a better deal atleast throw in a helmet of my choice and gloves at that price. i am not stuck up or anything like that but between me my dad and my brother we spent alot of money and i dont think they are giving me the kinda pricing they should be for the quanity that i buy in, after all my brother is looking at the 450mxr and my dad is thinking about grabbing a ranger 700 xp for the farm but he thinks he is not be taking care of properly for the amount of money he has given them plus other clients i have sent their way! what do you guys think think i can do better?

Well I got my 07 IRS 525 for 6400 and got free oil changes for life and a free 300 helmet so it could be priced right since it is the new 08 Limited Edition 525. but you guess did spend like 35,000 their so he should take that into consideration? try to talk him into 5900-6000 range and see what he says or see if he could throw in a free CT pipe :p

Me and my brothers bought 4 IRS's out the door for 5800 each. But that was end of 07. No tax either! I think for what your going to be doing buy the raptor. I know i said it....sorry!

I think both machines will work equally well. The Raptors are very nice quads and have a ton of support in the aftermarket world. THe Polaris is getting better but just doesn't have the availability of parts yet, and never will! If you want to be different, go with the Outlaw! Might I suggest going with the standard 525s instead? The black and gold has PAINTED plastics which will not hold up as well to the abuse of trails! Save more case and go with a standard one and have the dealer throw in a JD jet kit, maybe a pipe, and maybe some skids....

Here is my 07 with powdered a-arms, bumper, nerfs, heat shield, wheels, and grab bar (powder holds up better than paint!):

eerhard,

That bike is sickening SWEET looking.

600,

I also have the 525 IRS and (after having a great running Raptor)love it even more . The parts are not that scarce, especially for the motor. It's been around for a while. Proven power. I think it handles better than I ever expected, too. I'm not a big jumper, but I'm more confident on the 525 than I was on the 660. ??? If you ride primarily trails, there is no other choice than the IRS. Find an '07 and you'll save maybe a grand. Believe me, they want to unload those '07's. And they are great bikes. You'll have the advantage over any other sport quad in the woods, ruts, roots, & rocks.

Thanks for the compliments, it is just piped and jetted as well as K&N, but mostly just powdercoating and seat cover..... That stuff goes a long way!:D

I agree with the Outlaw being better than the 660 but I think he was looking at the 700R instead. It would be a tough call! Actually thining about it, isn't the black LE the S model? That is where the comparison to the Raptor comes in.... If that is what you are looking at, good luck, I think their similarities are too close to make a good call on. Prices will be similar but to throw on a pipe, you will need a powercommander or Doebek contoller to remap the FI (an extra $200 minimum!). The Raptors are very nice quads, it was a tough decision for me but went with the 525 IRS and do not regret it in the least! Oh, it will jump as well but the landings are much nicer, and it doesn't matter if you land crooked because the IRS compensates for it!

I gotta have resevior shocks and i want the 525 motor dont really like the black and gold color scheme but want what i stated above. I would buy the 450 if i buy the regular one and put tires on it rather then buy the 525s and have to put shocks on it. I think either one is probly pretty fast i just want the extra torque of the 525. i duno but then i would probly want to make the 450 a 525 anyway its just i dont understand why they dont just put the good shocks on the 525 too. i wanna maybe remove the gold from the le i am thinkg of getthing rath racing a arms in black and trying to get the swing arm to black or silver dont really like the gold. another think about the 450 is the tires wear fast and they arent going to be as durable as the regular 525s tires. i am a hardcore dude the irs is out of the question for me i just want to smoke the rednecks up by my house upstate on their worked z400's and 660r's but i want a machine that handles and slides nice the irs will get in my way

Wow, you have a complete misconception of the IRS Outlaw 525 if you think it will not slide and doesn't handle well. And, the IRS is quicker through the trails than a straight axle! If you want to beat them in a drag, buy a banshee! But as far as Z400s and 660s go, unless they have stroker motors, the 525 will beat them in a drag also!

you could probably get the shocks for cheaper than the tires fyi.......the if not the kit to make the 450 a 525 is more expensive than the shocks. IMO if youre not going to mx just get the 525s (not le) because its not that big of a price difference and just upgrade the shocks and you would still be ahead of the game.

One of my buddies I ride with has a 525le, nice quad but I think I would take my irs, especially if you are trail riding. We ride them primarily in the sand and he can beat me up the big dunes by about a quad length but when it comes to handling I would take the IRS. It feels more stable, slides, jumps and wheelies like a solid axle but is more forgiving in the rough stuff. I don't think there would be another spot quad more suited for the trail! By the way I have never seen a stock z400, 660 or a 700 raptor that could beat me to the top!

i have 100 miles of smooth trailes right in my backyard and i have not found any flaws with the straight axle or even the mx tires on my brothers mxr. the mxr is actually a better trail machine then the 525. i have to get my suspension dialed in right now i think its alittle stiff and i gotta figure out what to do with the rear shock but other then that my bike rips everything. The irs just looks a little sissy queer sorry guys i am a hardcore dude and i like the straight axle and last time i checked i think my outlaw is the hottest looking wheeler

Sissy queers will outride you for hours a day then! When you are tired and beat, we will ride on with our sissy queer IRS quads! And, I am pretty sure that the flat black plastics are painted! I will see if I can find the info...
