Truck + Gas + V8 = Bad gas mileage

Truck + Diesel = Much better mileage and performance

Only problem is that diesel is apparently made out of Unicorn Tears and will cost you around $6/Gallon by the end of summer.

Crap shoot really, Let us know what you end up doing.

get the 08 v8 4.7l dodge ram 1500. (wait till the 09s come out because the 08s price drop as a left over will be huge)...they make 310hp stock. thats real good, and gas mileage is not bad at all, especially with mds

06-08-2008, 06:35 PM
I wouldnt get the dakota. My brother has 1 nice truck and all but gas still sucks! 15MPG isnt good gas milage.

sure you want a 4x4 v8 truck? Gas is pretty damn expensive.

I love my truck but gas is just crazy.
Wish I would have gotten a little 4cly 5speed ranger now :scary:

Gas sucks. If you don't need a truck, get a car. If you need a truck go with a little four banger truck unless your hauling.;)

i might sell the gmc and buy a saturn ion-35mpg!!!, then if i have any money left over, i could buy a beater truck to go muddin in. a saturn ion might be expensive though

i'm glad now my dad made me an offer to just buy a hitch for his 4 cylinder toyota highlander and I can tow the trailer and go whenever I want and then I will buy a civic or accord, something that gets gas milage in the 30's. If your going ot get a truck get a 4 cylinder tacoma, 22 MPG isnt have bad for a truck. But as I see prices going higher and not going lower hell i'm all for buying a fuel efficient 4 cylinder car.

Yeah be smart, I wouldn't even touch a fullsize with a V8 right now... Hell I hate my s-10 with a v8 in it right now.. :blah: Put it this way, unless I have about 40 dollars a day my truck wont budge.. invest in a gas sipper truck if you have to have one.. I wouldn't mind a little Yota with a stick or 4cylinder s10 with a stick ;)

I just bought a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 on monday and couldnt be happier. I just drive back and forth from work everyday which is only like 2 miles from my house so a full tank is gonna last me about 2 weeks if not more so worrying about paying for gas isnt an issue for me. I cant see myself driving a car, im a truck guy.

my 03 sierra gets 15-16 in town, and i've gotten as high as 20 on the highway...

my 02 accord however, last time i filled up i had gotten 30.5 mpg... not too bad for city driving...

dodges are not known for having good fuel economy... cummins yes, dodge no...

LMAO

Dodge Diesels would be great if they didn't have so much Dodge stuff wrapped around that Cummins.

Get a V-6 Taco. Great reliability and decent gas mileage.

i just got a new 08 silverado a couple months back... now that gas is so darn pricey it parked and im riding the bike as much as i can....

if your not hauling i'd go for a smaller truck with a 4 banger, unless your not worried about spending all your cash on gas

i have a 2005 v6 toyota tacoma and it gets alright gas milage (anything that requires gas is hurting everyone anyways) but its a good little truck with about 245hp and getting around 17 city and 21 highway, havent had any major problems yet

Cummins is not dodge at all lol. Its just in a dodge body. Im sorry to offend anyone but if it wasnt for the cummins engine i feel like dodge would have went under years ago.....and whoever recommened a ford truck with cummins engine settin in front of an allison tranny is the man:muscle: that would be the perfect truck............................If your lookin for a gas truck with decent fuel economy i say stay away from dodge their known for their poor gas mileage

550hp stock on a one ton dodge??????????????? Im sorry dude but unless the dealership stacked an Edge with attitude on top of a "Crazy Larry" tune on your dads truck it aint makin 550HP stock. My brothers Dmax had a 125 horse Edge stacked on top of a 215 quadzilla tune and it only dynoed right around 440/450 and trust me it would have ate a STOCK dodge for supper.

check the gearing on the truck.. newer trucks with 5 speed give mor millage than the old 4 gear trucks.

I had an s-10 with a 4.3 five speed. Now I have an s-10 with a fourbanger five speed. Avoid the fourcylinder s-10s if you're gonna get one. The mileage was every bit as good with twice the motor. If your goin fullsize, I tend to believe that Chevys anf GMCs get better economy than ford and by dodge by a long shot.

when it is time for me to get a vehical, I am probably going with a 07 nissan frontier V6 gets 23 highway and like 265hp. thats pretty good.

550 horsepower is rediculous!! take that beast to a truck pull and stomp some *****. my buddys cousin had a 90's 2500 cummins that did about 500- that was a fast truck, until the turbo went out and he sold it.

just wait til 09 when ford put their 4.4L diesel in the f150 economy and power in a smaller full size truck

but since what was said earlier with diesel being made out of unicorn tears and a little bit of low sulfur pixie dust might not be too economical.

all i got to say is my firend 07 2500 with the cummings and a 6 inch suspension lfit and 35's gets 21 mpg city while my f150 with 33's gets around 14 city roughly 20 highway...thats why im getting a 6cly s dime stick to beat the crap out of.

do the math diesel at a higher price still more economical in my eyes

I'm sorry to tell you, but you will not see 550HP out of a stock CR ISB Cummins. Heck you won't even be seeing over 310HP with a stock 5.9 CR (at the rear wheels).

And if it is brand spankin new off the lot, it will not be getting 20MPG either. Need a good 50,000km on the engine before the engine begins to break in. Once it is broke in you could be seeing around 20MPG Highway (City driving MPG wont go much over 17, and 17 is if you are lucky). But that also depends on what tranny is in it, gear ratio, mass, etc.

In regards to the actual post, I would recommend some sort of 4cyl or 6cyl truck (if you are set on a truck). Diesel fuel is getting pretty pricey, and unless you need a Diesel (or want one to hop up) then go with a small gasser.

Our '96 Chevy Suburban with the 5.7L mill in it gets 14mpg towing 3 quads, riding gear, and a mondo cooler. Though it hurts filling the 42gal pig.
