warrior good buy?

well next week me and my brother are set to aquire a 1999 warrior for 1k, and when we looked at it it looked a little scratched and the stock baffle has been tore out but it seemed to run fine, the people who owned it just said it "had a new motor" so i dont know if that meant the whole thing or rebuilt (which im assuming, cause it didnt look new) anyway my brother rode it a little ways on their farm and i stood watch for smoke and never saw any so when we go and check it out is there a plain visible way to see if the job has been botched or anything? the main reason why im askin is because i know that particular motor is still one of the most solid ones in the market and id imagine youd have to be pretty hard on one to mess it up to begin with...

yea, like a 400ex or something, but 1k is not a bad price. you could pick up a 99 400ex for like 1500 though and they are waaaayyy better than a warrior.

After owning both a Warrior and a 400EX, I would never go back to a Warrior. The 400EX rides and handles so much better than a Warrior. I would probably also say the same if I now had a 450R, I would never go back to a 400EX. $1,000 does seem like a really good price for a 1999 Warrior.

Nothing wrong with a warrior, true, but you can buy 400ex's all day long in KY and TN for 1500. I had a pretty nice 01 426 that I sold for 1800. Just need to find someone that's tired of riding or whatever, and you can get them cheap.

Save for a EX. Even a FST 450 Warrior couldn't touch a slightly modded 400EX

ehh, i dont know about that.

A well-built FST 446 warrior with the right cam, porting, and exhaust, puts down around 42hp. One guy has a tricked out one with this setup in the warrior section I believe.
Now a good-built 440ex puts out anywhere from 42-46, so not much of a difference.

Who would put that much money in a warrior though?:eek2:

Anyways, if its cheap enough, get it. We had one. The engines are literally bullet-proof. Not the best handling, but good for a beginner

alright we just went and got it (around my area that seriously is the best thing 1000 was gonna get us, alot of nutty people around here thinks stuff doubles in value when their crusty a** touches it) and so far the only thing wrong is that it leaks a little oil but i dont care still a good buy all we need is a bottle of stop leak and were good to go, and we didnt get it to race ex's or anything, its gonna be the beater/recovery quad, whats that you ask?, we put a winch/straps on it to recover our other quads when we need it like gettin em out of the really really thick stuff, instead of hiking it for the truck now we can just get the warrior. :D

A FST 450 warrior would stomp anything short of a 440ex.

Seriously though, that FST 450 warrior would kill your 440, looking at the pictures that you have. It had wayyy better suspension, more power...etc.
