If they are the ones taking it apart, expect it to take several hours.

What are they charging you? Complete teardown (fenders and all) and reassembly, I bet they are charging about $300 in labor alone, right?

If you don't feel confident in yanking the motor out and just droping that off (Really they only need the top end)you could strip the bike as best you can to avoid paying 60$$ an hour to have someone remove plastics, fuel tank..etc....

yeah as said above theres is a lot of work you can do yourself to save you alot of money, and the dealer is not always the cheapest to go to, check your local atv shops if you have any, do your research dont rely on your dealer for everything, they read out of a sevice manual just like we do : )

well my grandfather is a mechanic and he only works on cars, but do you think he can work on my 400:confused:

We have a place by north of us that charges $50/hr thats a hour away then another place south of us about 30 miles that charges $75. If you buy a Clymer its really straight forward.

I'm sure your grandfather could work on them its alot easier I think than cars.

as long as you get an owners manual anyone with mechanical experience should be able to do it.

$60 per hour is actually a little on the low side, for a dealership. I doubt you'll find any under $50.

It's not just a mechanic's wages they are paying. It costs them more than the simple $12.50 per hour they pay their mechanics. They have the tools, (those big boring and milling machines aren't cheap, several thousands of dollars) the lease payment on the building, electricity, plus the other wages that must be taken out. You're going to have a lead floorman or Master Mechanic, a department manager, and upper management wages that all get a cut of that.

Trust me. In the realm of repairs, a $60 shop labor per hour really isn't all that unreasonable. Your grandfather is a mechanic, ask what his normal labor charge is. I bet it's at least $50, probably more like $75

try to find a performance shop. or a parts/repair shop. i bet you the hourly rate is cheaper. stay away from those stealerships.

the guy i know that does repair his hourly rate is $30. $300 to tare and assemble a motor. hes a good guy and does great work. i do most everything myself.:)

If they are charging 60 bucks an hour does that come with like a case of lube to help you out.
