well technically 88-98 just small grille updates.:macho

THe body style continued a little after '99 as the Silverado classic and were in the 2500-3500 until like 2000 or so if I'm not mistaken.

not true....88-98 were the same trucks but the motor and trans in the 96-98 were totally different the 88-95 had a TBI 350 with a 700r4 trans....the 96-98 were a vortec 350 which has more power, and the 4L60E trans....

the body styles was changed in 99....

well true but he asked if the body styles were the same if he asked a more general question I would have mentioned what you did lol oh well.

although I should have mention the updates style came out in '99 while the Silverado 1500 classic was the same body as the 88-98 style and in 2000 it was only the 2500's and 3500's that had it even thought they did come out with a newer body style 2500 by then..

I thought the 4.3 had the 4l60e and the 350 had the 4l80e?

4L80s are the "heavy duty" trans. 1/2 tons use the 4l60s mainly.
TBI sucks nuts.

Thankfully Edelbrock makes a true EFI intake that replaces the TBI system. As soon as I have the money, I'm grabbin a set of heads, headers, cam, and throwin that intake on. I'll miss my 19mpg, but I won't be putting out a measly 230 horse either. Boat and paint on the truck comes first though.

Oh, the 96-98 Vortec injection systems are FUBAR'd.

If we really want to get technical, the 96 vortecs were steel heads, and the 97-98 were aluminum heads. Also, the electronic transmisson was first introduced in 1993. The 700r4 was only found in 1988 to 1992 of this body style. 4.3s can be found with 4L60E, but the 4L80E was only found in heavy half and heavier trucks.

Which 450?

yea im not that great with exact years, but actually, i was about to put the edelbrock intake to switch it over to carb, but sold the truck.

yea it seems like chevys are notorious for the cam corners rusting. im gonna get the bottem part (below the line on the doors) rhino lined. my dad had it done to his truck and it looks sweet.

My chevy, cab corners rocker panels, front fenders and oil pan all rotted out. Not too bad considering its a 91' that was driven year round till last year when the oil pan rotted through.

350, with the 5 speed :)

All this talk about body rust makes me happy I live in the south. No road salt down here:macho We've had trucks come into our shop that had spent winters up north. The brake components were literally falling into pieces as we took the brake drums apart.

i got a sierra 1500 which is basically the same thing and the bottom of the doors is starting to rust out a little...its bugging me. going to get that fixed as soon as i have some serious $$$ put away

Regular cab corners aren't too bad price wise, but ext. cabs are nearly double.

Stylinconcepts.com is carrying them now and I think they're cheaper than LMC.

Road salt is gruesome. Buddy of mine has a 98 out of Illinois and it looks like some too a shotgun to the lower extended cab and doors. 20 years of driving is just catchin up to mine and the original paint is done in.

Its amazing what salt will do, especially hearing that guy that posted above say his oil pan went. Nasty...

striker49, Its says you live in West KY. Where at? Anyway, as you know, we are in a bad place for the winter conditions. We get a half inch of snow and the road crews dump tons and tons of salt. I especially hate all the pre salt junk they put on the roads "before the storm" then we get rain, and have to drive through the junk.

I live in Symsonia, work in Mayfield, and hang out in Paducah.

I hear ya, that salt mess is a joke. I'm impressed that all the vehicles sittin at the house are holding up as good as they do.
