Ok first let me say I am a experienced rider, I have had a CR500, 400ex, honda 450R and now a street legal XR650R which I am selling now for another quad. I can not make my mind up at all. I have a guy I know who is selling his YFZ450 I may be able to get it for 3,200 I don't know whats all done to it but I know he takes care of every thing he has its a 2004 I sold my honda 450r about 8 months ago and really I hate to say but I don't miss having to kick start that thing. I am going to get a electric start no matter what. I ride trails in Kentucky, I am 6ft 230lbs. I was looking at the z's and kfx's because they are fairly cheap around me if I was going to buy one it would have to be 2005 or newer. I am really not that impressed with the 2003 z400 a buddy of mine had one that had a 440 kit on it, cams and edlerbrock carb, pipe and so on. I raced him with my R and it only had a 13th tooth front sproket, FMF pipe and wasn't even jetted yet. Mine had stock tires on it he had HD holeshots. I raced him then let my friend race him who was more they guys weight and not matter what it spanked him. I need some help decideing. Now I do remember racing a guy with a YFZ in a drag in a field and it was a tie every time.

If you are between just those two, I would go with the YFZ450. I do not think you will be happy going from a TRX450R to a LTZ or KFX. However, I would suggest looking at a 2006 or newer Yamaha Raptor 700R. It will be more comfortable for your size and is a great trail quad. I have ridden with two guys that were your size that had 700s and they loved them. One guy had upgraded from an LTZ400. He was way more comfortable on the Raptor and he rode faster as a result.

If you have not yet, check out www.kentuckyriders.com

If its between the kfx/Z and a yfz i would deffinitley go with the yfz!. i have a brand new 07 and couldnt be happier. my buddy has a z400 and he regrets getting the yfz. i think you will be impressed wirth it

i agree about the raptor, it would be more comfortable for you. the yfz's seem short and low to alot of people, the ergo's are a little weird compared to other quads, but if you have sat on one and like it, i would definitely get the yfz, it would be no contest in speed and agility versus the 400's, the raptor would be a contest though, and it would certainly be more setup for someone your size.

The 700R is a lot different than the 660. Its handling was really improved with the 2006 redesign.

Ok I looked a little at the 700 and its not for me. It's still either the yfz or the ltz400/kfx400

in that case, find someone that will let you sit on a yfz, maybe even ride it, if you feel comfortable, get it. it will blow a 400 away. it will out handle one, out run it, out jump it, anything. but any of the 450's will.

I agree with BK 2007 YFZ450 - you may want to consider a 700 raptor. I have an 07 YFZ and am 5-10 170lbs. A friend of mine has a Raptor 700 SE and is 6-0, 205. It fits that guys size well and it handles good for him on the trails. My YFZ fits me perfect and handles great on the trails.

Both of our bikes are stock. He has an EFI re-mapping module and plays around w/ that a lot... We lined up yesterday for a few drag races. I had the edge every time by about 1/2 quad. I would say if we had a full 1/4 mile it may have been different but in our short runs I won each time....My 30lbs weight advantage helped I am sure. Ha also raced a 400ex w/ pipe, cam, etc - had him by about 3 bike lengths each time...

Depending on what you are after as far as power, etc... In my experience the Raptor has a smooth power band and lots of torque, handles good for the trails, and has reverse. YFZ's tend to have a snappier power band, rev much quicker, and are pretty ballistic...kind of reminds me of a 2-stroke power band with a lot more torque - which is what I was after... Your size may lend itself to go with a Raptor?

I doubt you will be happy w/ a 400 KFX or others though.

Outdoorsman.

Hey man nice choice with the 400ex. But, i have a 07 yfz and i am goin to have to admit personally i think its better in the mud, trails, speed. I smoked my friends 400ex by 10 quad lengths (a little revage from when he raced my blaster)

But, anyways my friend has the same quad that you just bought/or are buying and he rides the sh45t out of it and it runs just perfect. And he loves it and i am sure that you will love it to.

Another plus about a 400ex over a yfz is 400ex is less maintance then the yfz.
