I've recently been looking to get a new quad and my dealer has both an 07 and an 08 LTR. I've read up and heard the differences between the two and I'm leaning towards the 08 but I can get the 07 for a grand cheaper. Any thoughts opinions on the two that would sway me one way or the other would be appreciated.

I was in the same delima, but went with 08 le(black). The 08's have better shocks, better cam profile and many other small improvements. You just need to figure if 1k is worth the improvements.I did!:D

The 08's have an issue with 3rd gear going out and the 07s have weeker cases and are prone to bending shift forks. Pick your poison I guess, I'd get an 06 lol.

thanks for the input, I'll most likely end up getting the '07. I can put more character into the bike with an extra grand.

so far this year in the races before I broke my wrist I pulled every holeshot in the A class...and not of them were close either, I was typically a few bike lengths out front.

I dunno if thats the traction control or not, I cant tell its there...but the bikes are fast no doubt in my mind...they hook up, good

Could it be that this 3rd gear problem is in only early batches what suzuki made. I heard that many who order -08 as soon as they can.. -07 september or little later.. Many have this 3rd gear problem ,but they who buy it in this spring or summer... no problem. Only positive word to say about -08.. Even they have like 40-70 h in hour meter..

Fact is that ALL year model quads regardless of who makes it have problems. I personally have the 08 Limited LTR450 and have not had any problems. It was purchased in March of this year so I can say anything about the tranny having problems. As of now it's been perfect.

im looking at a new 08 but the trans issues are worrying me...no one knows if they updtaed anything in the later 08's?

08-23-2008, 10:09 AM
I love mine and highly recommend it! They are faster than the 07, have about 100 changes and I can't say enough how I love this quad..

I got the first 08 in michigan. i got it in september. i ride it every weekend and have raced it many times. and i have not had a single problem other than i riped the oil drain plug out of the oil tank when changing the oil. OOps

08-24-2008, 03:33 PM
I LOVE mine. I beat the hell out of my brothers Banshee that's pretty modified and two other friends Banshee's + my buddies Cals Predator 500 and Marks 07 Honda 450R that has had some mods done. None of them can hang with the LTR450.

the traction control is a gimmick. 06 through 08 are going to give you the same satisfaction, find a good deal and go riding.

my 08 Limited Edition will beat my buddies 07 with cherry bomb n RS 5 pipe, mine is stock, i think its all in the cam profiles, and the traction control is not a gimmick, i am a big guy and my buddy can't hang with me outta the turns, and hes a stick, big difference, 08 is the way to go..... Zrider400 needs to ride one against a 07, he'll learn

Who are you? This weeks forum Nazi? Traction control on the newer LTR seems gimmicky to me also. 06-07 have all the tracion control I need, its called the throttle and clutch.

09-03-2008, 02:13 PM
The 08 doesn't have traction control... It does however have a ECM that retards the timing to help with wheel spin if your spinning. I have an 08 Special Edition and I always get the HoleShot on my Brothers Banshee that's totally stroked, my buddies 07 450r Honda thats not stock and all my other friends quads. The Zuki Kicks Arse out of the Hole! Personally, i don't think any year model is a bad one. The bike simply rocks.

"twat"

dont other folks opinions count or is yours all that matters.

I very rarely post on forums because of replies like this one.

Are you calling me a Twat?

09-08-2008, 11:56 AM
Ok, I went to Little Sahara, Ok this weekend and did some drag racing. I constantly beat my friends 07 Honda 450r with an HRC kit, Brothers crazy Banshee and most other bikes there. I did have some problems with one of about 4 YFZ's but for the most part beat about everything. The One YFZ had been modded pretty well. I did get to race another LTR450. It was an 07 model with a Yoshi full exhaust, Power Commander, Air Intake kit and a few other items. I beat him the first two races till my left back tire went flat... I ran over something. Anyhow, my 08 only has a Cherry Bomb and BMC Filter, Baffle out of the Stock Exhaust and Air Box lid off and I was pretty much owning the drag strip. I love this quad...

i would suggest an 06 07 save a little cash and just fix it up how you like with the spare change. I have rode an 08 nothing speical, did not feel much faster stock vs stock. Im sure others will disagree.

Are you for real, did you not see who I quoted, anyhow for my pennies worth. I race an 07 ltr, with dmc power chip (same as cherry bomb) baffle removed, lid removed, pro design filter....

2 mates who I attend the track with, one has an 06 and the other an 08, 2 of us are of similar ability (07-08) and are always swapping bikes at the practice track to see if theres any improvement over any of our times. The other mate is an awesome rider (06) and he participates in swapping bikes "just to see" and so far there is nothing noticable at all over the 3 bikes. yes of course there are or must be changes but in power terms... I doubt it. sorry gotta go theres a cold one waiting for me.

lol ignore my posts like that, they honestly mean nothing.

All I know is when I threw a leg over my 08 and threw a leg over my 06 there was a pretty noticeable difference in power. Not to mention my holeshots on my 08 were 10x better than they were on the 06. I would ride both in the same day on the same track, kinda obvious when I can easily clear a jump on my 08 and gota hit it a lot harder to clear it on my 06.

09-10-2008, 03:59 PM
I thought the 08 had some changes done to it that gave it an extra 3 HP over the 07? Add the basic mods, cherry bomb, baffle out and so forth and you still have 3 more HP. I raced an 07 this weekend in Little Sahara, OK and beat it every time. He had a Yoshi pipe, power commander and all I have is stock pipe, baffle out and cherry bomb. It was close but I still won every time. The 08 is faster period.

hey brhokla i was wonderin i just came off of a 86 250r 2 stroke and was wonderin why does my brand new LE 08' LTR 450 pipe get so hot w/baffle removed @ airbox lid gone & cherry bomb is this normal for it to burn your hand after 15 minutes of ridin if u touch the silencer not the header. my old honda i could touch the silencer and it didn't burn at all. just wonderin if this is normal.

09-11-2008, 04:27 PM
Man, that's a question for the tech guys on here. I didn't notice mine having any excessive heat but it does get very hot on the header. I will check next time I go riding and see what mine does. I will tell you that the LE LTR450 is the best quad I've ever rode.

Not sure about other ltr's but I wouldn't wanna touch mine after 15mins of "hard Riding" I know mine gets pretty damn hot but after a 3 hour enduro it dont seem to be any warmer than after the first 10, 15 or 20 mins etc.

petzllampo
09-12-2008, 02:18 PM
some folk have noticed major differences whilst others have noticed very little with some not realy noticing any... this is what debates are made of... lets keep it like that.

I think the ltr rocks, 06, 07, 08, etc the future ltr's may be the dogs bollox but my 07 kicks *** as does your 06's and 08's

08's suck
i rode mine 3 months and it its trashed
I lost 2nd-4th gear, top end, and both intake valves.
I personally havent had good luck

09-13-2008, 07:54 AM
You all really crack me up... First,

I have an 08 and I have run it HARD... with ZERO problems. I understand they made a few like 100 changes between 07 and 08 but they are all minor little changes. There is nothing wrong with the 08 the 07 or the 06. Fact is, they are all machines and subject to breakage. That's the facts. I wonder why this debate is even taking place on this forum? Fact be known once the 09's come out we will all want it. The debate will continue and everybody that doesn't have the newest model will be bashing it. I have a hard time believing posts claiming anybody had a brand new 08 and it's totally trashed in three months unless they have completely wrecked the bike, not changed the oil and just rode the hell out of it without any maintenance. If that's the case then they deserve to have the bike go to crap! Personally, my 08 ROCKS and I wouldn't trade it for an 06 or an 07. I also doubt anybody on this forum without some sort of Brain damage would trade a 08 model in the stock form for an 06 or 07 in the stock form on an even trade. Hell, I'd love to find somebody to trade me an 08 Tahoe for an 06.... Anybody want to make that trade with me?
