my quad is sick

I'm not really sure whats going on but lately my quad has been stalling out. Almost like when you first start it up and its cold and put it in gear and it stalls (just unexpectidly quites). Today I was riding it, had it in 4th just cruising pulled in the clutch and it stalled. After everytime it stalls when I start it, it starts first kick. Then on my way back to my house it didnt really want idle, I had to keep tapping the gas and it was kinda poping/backfiring. By the time i got back to my house (about a mile) it was fine. Anybody have any clues what it could be? Possibly crappy gas? When I get a chance this week im gunna change the plug, clean the airfilter, and adjust the valves and see what happens.

Take the bowl off the carb and clean in there. Also clean out the jets. Dump all the fuel out of the tank and refill it with new. That's all I can think of besides what you already mentioned.
