Depending on how big of a boat and how big of a anchor you have, you'll need a good size chain to hold the Harley when you drop it in the water.:macho

nice response ZEROLOGIC! can tell your age!

how old are you 97blaster? insurance can be a killer on younger guys! The best way to shop for a Harley is too seek out the one that strikes your interest and rent that bike for a day or a weekend before you buy! The touring bikes are gonna give you the best ride and handlability out of all the Harley's! It can be one of the best ways to see the country side and you can be safe in doing what you love, if you always ride with a defensive approach!

I used to want a harley but I couldnt afford one so I got a Suzuki m50 cruiser. After riding my friends sportster I'm glad I couldnt afford it it rides like &^$ compared to mine. They do look real nice though but when I get a bigger bike I going to get a kaw mean streak. I say ride both before buying. My bike was only 6400 out the door for an 08, my bud just got a 1100 v star for 7800 out the door. As long as you stay alert and defensive you shouldnt have a problem.

im dead set on a harley. no question about it. i like the softail bikes. they caught my eye when i first started looking so im going to go for one of them. im 19. im very responsible. price really isnt an issue because i can make payments on it. i paid my truck off in less than 6 months. i know how to save my money. insurance will be the major factor in this of course. does anyone know how much insurance would be for a 19 year old?

A harley will definitely be cheaper than a sport bike, that's for sure. I had a sporster when I was 25, I wasn't paying more than $40 a month full coverage. My 84 Shovelhead I pay about $34 /mo. I'm 31 though.:ermm: Just call your insurance agent, they'll give a very good idea how much insurance will cost you.

I'm not like every other 18yr old out there. I DON'T want a street bike. I would kill for a 70's era Sportster. Kickstart son. I would like street bike when I'm older, I'd kill myself on one of those now.

I'm too young and broke to get a Harley. I ride a KTM525EXC that I have made street legal. Here's my pop's softail deuce.

Why must you insist on dissing harelys. I happen to be a huge fan of them and my whole family rides em. People dont diss you cuz you ride a dirtbike and not a quad yet your a part of a quad forum. Just let us go and stop causing trouble.

im not looking to fight im just pointing out that everyone is entitled to there own likes and should be bothered about them.

Do harleys still come with AAA road side assistance and a bucket of oil dry?

softail frames are nice, but keep in mind the motor is mounted to the frame rigid and the vibration is absorbed through the bike thus causeing more fatiqued! Touring bikes are rubber mounted to the frame and vibrates heavily at idle but is smooth as glass once the bike is in motion! only other thing i would recomend would be to by a bike with bags and a windshield and if you like the stripped down look you can take them off, rest assure if you buy a bike without those items, you will be buying them later! goodluck in whatever you get!

Dad's is rubber mounted. It's the older hogs that aren't.

yes you are right the older ones are rigid! take a close look at the deuce i would be willing to bet there are no rubber pads between the frame and motor!

06-04-2008, 10:34 AM
softtails? rubbermounts? Electric start? pshh give me a rigid, kickstart, springer haha:chinese:

I stand corrected. However I can personally vouch that it doesn't have near the vibration of the older non-rubber sporters.

Dad's got an 07 Ultra-Classic, you know, the couch on wheels, weighs 3 tons and could crush you if it fell over.

I've got an 1980 somethin sportster 883 and it rides like a rock. Dad bought it for me and I took it out like... 3 times?

Hate it so far but maybe if I put an exhaust on it and clean it up then I might possibly grow to like it.... I still want a streetbike.
