If i bought a 400ex how much would it cost to keep up with a 450? should i put a 416 a 440 or something in between?because most of my friends ride 450's. would it be reliable or would i be farther ahead to buy a 450? i sat on both and i like the way the ex feels and i don't have to stretch my arms as far to reach the bars so the ex would be a better choice for me

Most 450r's have at least a slip on performance pipe. So you would need to do a bunch of engine work plus full exhaust to be fast as a 450r. It would be cheeper to do a engine swap and build a hybrid than to fully mod the 400ex engine. If you did that it would be faster than all the 450s at a cheeper cost.

Save your money & put into a 450. 2 years ago we had a 400ex turned it into a 440 it hauled *****. Put alot of money into suspension new Ohlins all the way around A arms, swingarms it really moved & looked good. Kept up with most "B" riders especially on short tracks, raced against "A" riders not good. HP on the 440 was about 47, you can do that easily on a 450. WE put a TON of money in it. If i could have put that in the 450 I would have been further a head. Make sure you go suspension 1st then motor work. You will be much faster & further ahead this way. I do miss that old 440 though, it fit like a glove.

Ya, but you can only run in the open classes, & you will spend alot on mods. They are sweet when done right

I dont know about that. Maybe in the d or c class which is pretty much just driving around not racing.

I ride my 440 with a 2006 450R w/the HRC kit and Ohlins suspension and can keep up fine. And we ride HARD!:scary:

Then a 400 with a kit would be perfect for you. Make sure the head gaskets are tourqued right. You can have a lot of fun with a 400-440. if you need a good engine builder pm me

A normal 440 kit isn't going to be fast as a "totaly stock" 450. I seen a 400ex with a race cam, ported, and a 500 kit wit ha full exhaust and was only at 48hp.

cc dont = power. A 426ex is going to be in the low 30s while a 100% stock yz426 has 47hp.
