First off 400ex shocks suck *** with a 100lb person. If I remember right 260 or 240 is the weight limit for the stock shocks. But that dont matter. If you like to jump will need new front shocks. The rear one is good but not good enough to me. You will want to change the rear one or have TCS rebuild it. As for front chose who ever you like.

We've all heard the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Much the same, the idea of being "to big to be jumping on a 400ex" is really a personal preference. You see full-grown riders jumping little 50cc dirtbikes, right? You can't be more mis-matched than that.

Mods and upgrades are an easy decision. You upgrade the suspension when you start finding the limits of the stock suspension. Simple. You put mods into the motor when you find it doesn't have enough power to hit the jumps you want.

Somewhere in there, when you start jumping really big, maybe you gusset the frame. But other than that, all other mods you'll discover on your own.

Im 6' 231lbs

I've gotten about 3ft of air with my little home-made pos in my back yard. Its easy.

Ive done bigger jumps at the local sand pit by us.

Now, the stock front shocks do suck, and land the rear first for sure

I weight 240 bro, front shocks will snap your wrists if you go big on them, I would look into Flexx bars and front shocks.
It really isn't that bad if you downside everything really smooth, but when you go to missing a lil bit stock suspension will make you pay.

Hell I remember when big daddy was over 300 and would jump as big as anyone out there. I seen him hit a huge triple at monster mountain and crash a tear a nerf bar off. You have never seen someone so fast through whoops.

im 110lb. and i hate the front shocks of the 400. gonna get aftermarket. the only jump i have hit was about 20ft, and it was a rough landing on flat ground. aftermarket shocks are a must.

what do u guys consider big

Big as in jumping I consider 80+ ft big, or 20 -30 ft. high as big. I am a fatass man and we have a 95 ft double and a supercross style triple on our practice track and don't have a problem flying that far.

I weight around 260-265. I think I'm past the limits of the stock 450r shocks ha! I bottom out pretty hard on the take off of a 85 foot jump we have at a local riding spot. However I was surprised how much I could though at them, up to this point. I've gone just under 60' on a Aussie comp ramp.

P.S. I got some shocks for a bigger guy, for sale, look in my sig.
