I looked it up in the dictionary, it says: A force that produces or tends to produce rotation. So I guess torque is what gets the wheels turning.

torque is what gets the wheels movin, hp is what makes it fast, it think. I cant remember where I heard that though.

yes you are all correct, torque is the force generated by the engine to make the wheels move, so when you spin out dont say look at that power, say look at that torque,
torque is the force that moves weight in a certain amount of time, that is why it is measured in ft/lbs ,
i hope that made sense, i just study engines

quadman is correct, think of it as when you first hit the gas in a car. the first burst of accleration you fell to say....25-30 mph is the torque . after 30 mph is the hp. torque gets you goin. hp makes you run top speed. hope that helps

your mosly correct. torque is absent when the wheels are just spinning, and there is no movment.....just hp is created,
