I have a 90 that has the full list of usual mods. Pipe, bigger carb, reeds, stroked, etc. and the electris starter is removed. It also has the extra ground wire from coil to motor.

It was running great when we first got it. Then it would start, but not run just off idle. Now it won't start at all.

Replaced the stator, coil, cdi box, spark plug.
Cleaned the carb and inspected the reeds.
It has 210 lbs of compression and is running on race gas.
It has good spark.

What did I miss? How do you check the timing?

pull the flywheel and variater and check the crank seals. first go down the list, does it have spark, fuel. if it has spark pull the plug and squirt a little fuel in the cylinder and then try and start it. but it could be the crank seals if not spark and fuel issue.

It runs now, thanks.

As it turns out, It backfired once while I was working on it, but after I had checked the Reeds. I checked them once again, and one Reed had sucked inside the cage.
The origional problem was the stator.
