I know this subject has been beat to death and that there is great info available in this section, but we are way off somewhere and need help.

My buddy has a 400ex with a HMF Slip on and now a 04 450r carb. We are trying to jet it and we can't seem to get it right.

He relocated the battery in the air box and will be running a lid with a couple 1" holes on the top. He has a stock filter on it now because his UNI doesn't fit very well with the battery.

What size (keihin please) jets would you suggest and what adjustments are there on the 450r carb. Any additional info or tips would help.

Thanks

Start with the needle in the middle and a 165-170 main and a 50 pilot with 2 turns out from lightly seated.

What exactly does the needle adjust? What are you changing when you move it along the grooves?

it adjusts (within a certain range) jetting from about 1/8 throttle up to 3/4 throttle...
