Blown Head Gasket Symptoms.

I think I may have a blown headgaskit, and im just wondering what some signs that i do would be? thanks

when you really throttle the quad hard you should hear a loud popping or spitting noise from your engine. hard to explain the noise but it is pretty distinct. also watch aroiund the head gasket while you throttle it you might see some compression spitting out or oil

Another good sign is loss of power.

yeah, pretty sure i have both those so far. has noise that sounds like an exhaust leak, but kinda only when you get on it. has a lotta torque loss, and seems to run worse when hot - is that anything to do with it? also is smoking a bit, when i dont think it did before tear down, but i guess that could be due to new head with possibly bad valve seals. whats the best head gasket to get for a 426 with mods in sig, think ill need HD studs too? : (

well....for one, any time you bore a motor and use high compression piston, you should install HD studs. If you don't, guess what you get.......BLOWN HEAD GASKETS! Sound familiar?

leasureryan- sorry i didnt build the motor myself it was a high comp 426 when i got it, and from what i've seen HD studs are not mandatory. anyone want to tell me information that i dont already know?

I bet you have a blown head gasket, when mine blew, I only heard it when I got on it, and it was like an exhaust leak but had a loud whistle. Just look around your head gasket for black residue, that`ll tell all.

Only use Honda gaskets! I've blown most other brands. I thought my head was warped then my motor guy said he only uses OEM gaskets when he can. I've had no problems since!

well does honda make any for over bore? i think id need an 89mm one right? how much you think itll be?

I have had my 440 since 02 and only lost one head gasket and I do not have oversized head studs. I did not use a TQ wrench that time because I was in a hurry and it blew. Since then I have periodically checked the head bolts TQ and never had a problem. I only run 11:1 comp though.

get the hd studs.

i blew 2 gaskets, mine only made sounds when you blip the throttle, and still had power. it also leaked oil from the head.

-no crush gaskets, fixed.
-header collar has broken off, how much you think it'd cost to be professionally welded?
im pretty sure i dont have a blown head gasket, and that its just that *****ty exhaust. and the crush gaskets were supposed to be in there already, my brother said he thought that the other head already had them in it, after finally checking, wrong. had them left over from topend gasket set anyhow, so that worked out alright.
