Hi all,

I'm going to rebuild my engine this week.

I would like to know :

Which piston should I use for my next 416 bore? I would like to use 11.5:1 or may be 12:1, but who makes them? Will 12:1 could be good with 91 octane?

Which year of CRF 450R timming chain I need to use?

Would I need to use HD studs with that 416 setup? (look in my sig)

Will my crankshaft will be ok will that load?

I will also replace valves seals, do I need to replace anything else (reliability)?

Thanks in advance!

Both JE and Wiseco make 11:1 comp pistons and up both are great but people say that wiseco's comp numbers are unaccurate, I went with a JE piston myself, Anything higher than 11:1 will require race gas, I'd stay with 11:1 for realieable purposes. Any CRF Cam chain will work with the 400 there all the same. It's a good idea to replace the valve seals and get a valve job.

Your crank will be fine and you wont need HD studs if you went with 11:1, 12:1 I would do it.

A Cam would be another good thing to slap on

If you need any other help feel free to PM me I just got done rebuilding mine.

I went with the HD studs just because they were 50 bucks and the mechanic that did my cylinder did them for free. I went Wiseco and did 10:1 instead of 11:1. My mods are in my sig and like you I wanted to go for reliability so I chose to go all out.

Thank you all for your help.

I already got a stage II cam, like I wrote in my signature.

I did wanted to try 12:1, some said it could work on 91 octane. Anyone ever tested?

My buddy runs 12:1 on 93. That is still pump gas. Go for it.
